Carruthers - Astoria

We placed on our reservation that we had a table for 2 to celebrate my wife's birthday and we were placed at a 2 top in a small corner with a large party of about 15-20 about an arms length away. They were giving awards and celebrating something as well but they kept standing right in front of us and their butts were less than an arms length away. We loved that they were having fun but they were also extremely loud and We asked kindly if they wouldn't mind moving to stand in another location but they said they won't be long. We just decided to leave after a cocktail.

The place looks like a great spot for a date night and I don't mind spending a bit extra on some delicious food, but this was just lack luster. The Brussel sprouts and asparagus were underdone and the bourbon gravey reduction was not executed properly or reduced well enough. The other components of the meals were nice, but nothing to write home about. Perhaps it was just an off night, but an expensive blunder on my part.

The new ownership has carried on the tradition of food excellence. This is my go-to spot to take my wife for a date night. Excellent decor and ambience coupled with a very attentive and friendly staff. The menu is creative and delicious and somehow also reasonably priced. We have loved coming here in the past and are so happy we get to come here again since the re-opening. Highly recommended. Also, their cocktails are exceptional.

Current menu as of AUGUST 31 2024 Excellent food. The 1/2 salad I big so don't get the full salad unless that's all your ordering.

We had reservations for 5:15 but didn't get main course until 6:50 after telling three staff members. Had to request water to be filled. People around us that came in after us got thru full meal and left with doggy bags, but we were still waiting. Waitress nice and attentive at first, then suddenly was bartending and left us. Something going on in back kitchen as seemed like plenty of staff. Food was fine but system needs fixing. Hope they get it figured out as atmosphere is great.
