Avaliação da contribuiçãoThe only thing good about this place were the cocktails, which had depth. The food was very disappointing. We ordered beef tartare which was decent but it was served with stale, soggy rice chips. The Yellowtail crudo was very salty and did not have enough acid/brightness. The burnt ham garnish was bitter and the Yellowtail itself was chewy and not fresh. The waitress had suggested the porkchop, but it turned out to be a huge disappointment. The sauce was salty and the meat was chewy and the skin was not charred enough for being ?grilled?. I couldn?t even finish my food. And the worst plate was the lamb. It was just atrociously salty. Each of us took a bite to make sure we weren?t tasting it wrong and it left our tongues tingling and parched. We had to ask for more water. The waitress had an attitude when we told her that the dish was inedible. When the manager came over, he said ?it?s Southern food, everything is well seasoned? as if we didn?t know what Southern food was, it was just rude and unprofessional. He mentioned the chef did the ?seasoning is exactly where she likes it at?. The waitress even remarked ?it?s the cumin you?re tasting?. That was not it, the dish was bring butter from the burnt spices and it was salty as of left to cook way too long. Both the waitress and manager was not happy to service us and it showed with their impatience, rude remarks, and nonverbal body language. The rest of the staff (bus boys, bartender, host) were all friendly. The manager replaced our lamb with another dish of our choice in which we ordered the heirloom tomatoes. We thought it was supposed to be a light, refreshing dish. But it was also heavily seasoned in a bad way, too creamy, spicy, and powdery. It tasted like there was a very artificial seasoning to it. Anyways, the whole experience was just very disappointing. We had higher expectations reading the rave about this restaurant. For the price, it was not worth it. The ambience is loud with how the ceiling and walls were designed. We had a hard time hearing the staff as well as each other.
Extremely disappointed with the experience. Actually, one of the most disappointed meal I had in austin for a while. Service the first thing I realized is the amount of servers in a cramped space. I get it. Traditional dinning?s overhead comes from labor the small details. But I don?t feel welcome at all. When ordering, I didn?t received any information or recommendations. We had no explanation of has the menu changed? Where are we sourcing the ingredients from? Are they seasonal? Or any stories around the food. No nothing. During the service, just general check ins of ?we doing well here?? with a cold face. Sure, we tipped another 20% added to the 20% wellness charge since my friend opens restaurants herself. Let?s be real here folding towels, wiping tables, or other stuff makes your service LOOKs better, but in reality is more about the interactions.. Food one sentence to sum up: the food reminds me I?m at a steakhouse that?s not specializing in steak. It?s not a compliment. The gumbo and rice are over seasoned by miles. 50$ pork chop can?t even beat Perry?s Friday lunch special. I was extremely disappointed with the menu. When every restaurant can access the same protein how can you stand out and say: we have chicken or fish on our menu, and it will taste different and better than other restaurants when charging 40$ ? I understand it?s soul food historical and celebratory, but they are not creative enough for the price and not seasoned properly. Lastly, it?s sad to say that the biscuits are the best item. Overall the price doesn?t justify the experience. We ended up spend just shy of 520$ for 4 people. 130$ per person. I?m sorry When we are spending 5x the price of an average meal, the expectation will be high and the feedback will be harsh, and I wished I saved this money for restaurants in west loop Chicago?
Amazing Experience! A must dine while in Austin! Once we entered the restaurant we were treated like family and so well taken care of by the entire team! Our Server was Kyle, he offered the history of Olamaie and guided us through an excellent dining experience start to finish. Each dish was presented and explained. Did not take photos of the food as we enjoyed the moments and flavors of each course! Highly recommend! Be sure to order the biscuits!
I can?t believe I haven?t heard of this place sooner. Once I had mentioned I was going here to a few friends I had a lot of people say it was their go to and it was absolutely fantastic. They were exactly right. The staff was absolutely wonderful and the food was to die for. The manager on site, Jessie, was such a great manager and very kind. Our server Kyle was a 10 out of 10 and had a great recommendations. HIGHLY recommend this spot. From start to finish it was a perfect evening
On the outskirts of downtown Austin rests a small ranch home converted to one of the better restaurants I?ve been to in some time. At first, I was getting a bit frustrated as our reservation was as for 8, but we didn?t get sat till around 830 on this busy Friday evening. But the flaws stopped there. We were greeted by the most friendly and accommodating server I can remember having lately. If you?re making a reservation ask for Hope. She went as far at the end of the meal to write down recs for us where the locals like to go for drinks, tacos, etc. a perfect touch. The menu isn?t large, but offers a fantastic variety of southern fare with options for all. The beef tartare and tuna crudo were outstanding. Both were perfectly prepared. Tender, flavorful and worth repeating. The beef belly, similar to a pork, had a lovely smoked flavor, but being even fattier than a pb, it was a heavy dish that was a bit rich for me this evening. The stars of the night were their house biscuit with honey butter and the pork chop. Both of which possibly ruined all other biscuits and chops for me going forward. These two items are worth the visit alone. The chop was as tender as I can ever remember having with a insane mushroom gravy and fabulous smoky flavor as well. My only regret was not trying the butter cake for dessert. There was just no room after all the other goodies.
