The chicken wasn't seasoned and the syrup wasn't lemongrass as the menu says. The crab cakes in the Benedict tasted fishy, which is fairly hard to do with crab meat. Only sugar cubes and Equal to sweeten the coffee. I haven't used either in over twenty years. There was nobody in the place, save us and 2 other couples. What used to be a packed house for Sunday Brunch leads me to believe others have come to the same conclusion we at which we arrived Sunday. R&R is not what it used to be and is way overpriced for the service, food and loud music. We won't be back.
The venue itself is beautiful, charming and quaint. The drinks I had were delicious and I would venture back to Roots and Revelry just for the drinks. I would be interested in trying the brunch, but outside of that I do not have much interest in going back. Dinner was lackluster to be honest. Filet was just okay, but the demi glaze saved it! the demi glaze was perfection. Filet (in my mind) should not have been that tough. The sides with the filet were great. Dessert wasn't what I had expected so I guess I let myself down on that. Custard of the Creme Brule seemed like it set thicker than at other instances which i've had it. I did love my server. She was sweet and communicative. She and the drinks from the bartender were what made the dinner decent.
We were pointed to our table on arrival. We asked for a high chair twice then just held the toddler in a lap on the bench seat. We went and asked for water service at the 15 min mark. Closing in on the 30 min mark, we asked the waiter to put in food for the kids without having been asked for a drink order yet. Soon after the hostess came in and informed us they had three of their waitstaff not show up and the bartender was waiting the tables. Later on they were apologetic but at first they were acting like we were being the demanding ones. I would expect a call with to let us know their issues especially when they reached out twice asking for us to confirm our reservations.
We had to send 2 of our dishes back because of issues (one egg was undercooked and the other was missing the salmon), and it was generally a more casual/informal dining experience than we expected based on the price point and website information.
Went for brunch. Food and staff were exceptional. Amazing biscuits, wonderful **** mary, and egg dishes (particularly the Gulf Omelette). Light-filled dining room. Want to go back for dinner.
