The new owners have kept the iconic breakfast menu, but have introduced authentic Thai-style dishes to their lunch and dinner menu. The chef and co-owner is from Chang Mai, and her passion for bringing a taste of her country to Burnaby is inspiring.
This place is a gem! It is a clean, comfy diner has a wide selections of great food. The owners are Thai and Canadian-born couple. They have authentic Thai food, as well as the good old burger and fries. We went many times to try out different Thai noodles that they serves – all are impressive, good portion, and with lots of fresh ingredients. My daughter had their burger and fries; it was also excellent. The fries were crispy. The burger was not greasy, with health garnish. We kept going back to try different things; there was never anything that we don’t like and we are picky eaters. Both service and price were also good; certainly were the reasons we return.
Disclaimer: *This was a complimentary meal. This post was not edited or written for monetary compensation, and are solely my opinions and observations. The owner did know that I was there to dine as a blogger. The restaurant and Zomato had generously offered a free entree, so I decided to check out the place. We went around 4:30pm on a Saturday, and there were 2 single men eating away. We sat in a booth that had torn areas, but for the most part, I thought the place was cleaner than I expected.
Janes is very eclectic and interesting. I've noticed people come here for breakfast but I decided to be the wacky customer that ordered the thai dishes on the menu and to my surprise it was good! Ordered the chicken basil stir fry and my bro the Lad Nah, this dish was a bit of a challenge to mix the gravy and crispy noodle. The only thing I wasn't into was the Wonton soup broth was a bit on the sweet side.
I’ve been a bit gun shy of Chinese Canadian restaurants for the past while now due to a nasty bout with food poisoning I had at one a couple of years back. However, I heard that Jane’s had changed hands and was now also sporting Thai food on top of the typical Chinese Canadian fare! Perhaps it was the old red booths, or perhaps the Apple Crumble and Ice Cream special, but this place drew me in for a visit!
