This restaurant is clearly popular, but our dinner was nothing special. Several items were "off" the menu, as was the only Canadian white wine listed. The cauliflower fritters to start were very tasty, but a main course of flattened pork was rather tasteless and fettuccine were overlooked. More successful was a stuffed chicken breast and the hamburger.
We went for a family dinner. The service was excellent, the décor etc. was nice, and up to date. Three of us had turkey medallions wrapped in bacon with some asparagus. It tasty but I wish there was more food. We left a little hungry.
Get a table by the window, overlooking a green space. The restaurant is reasonably quiet, the service is good, and the food is very tasty. The kitchen is open, so you can see what is going on. We had birch smoked ribs, short ribs, and a side of ratatouille. All were very good. Recommended.
I haven't been here for almost 3 years and swore I would not return, but I thought as time passed, things may have changed and the location is convenient. Sadly, if anything, it was MORE disappointing. We arrived at 5:30 to a mostly empty house. We ordered the mussels and frites, asking the server to just leave out the fries. She said she was not allowed to do that. I said, no worries, I will pay the same price but I just don't want the fries on the table (too tempting) and she replied, I'll pack them for you to go. I repeated that I did not want them and finally relented and said, oh just bring them and we won't eat them. She then went to the kitchen and came back with the news that they had no mussels; in fact they were out of all seafood as they missed their delivery. I resisted the urge to suggest they run over Sunterra and buy some! Then we ordered a cream of asparagus soup which we spit, but it was difficult getting it down as it was extremely strong (and we both love asparagus) and so salty it was almost inedible. My main was the low carb flattened chicken breast and it was okay, but nothing to rave about. My colleague (we were celebrating her just getting her PhD) ordered the short rib, which on the menu was claimed to have cooked 12 hours. It was dry and tough. Another couple came to sit at the table next to us about 20 minutes after us (restaurant was still mostly empty) and he ordered the short rib and I heard him being told they were out of short ribs. As far as I know they only had one order for them - perhaps they had one left over from the day before which might account for its dryness. In any case, he is lucky not to have been served it. The only redeeming thing was the special of wine Wednesday and we shared a lovely light and refreshing pinot grigio. I should have followed my own past advice and not returned and i'm certain I won't in the future. Too bad, as nice location, good population living in the area. I know we were early but we left at 8:30 and it was still mostly empty. That must say something.
