Avaliação da contribuiçãoI was at my daughter's volleyball tournament in NE Calgary and was fortunate to have about an hour between games. I headed over to a nearby mall and found the casual Punjabi sweet house restaurant. Smelled wonderful and was bustling with take out and a few eat in customers. I ordered the veggie thalia which included buttery fresh soft naan, three kinds of veggie curry- lentil, chickpea and paneer, rice, salad and yoghurt. Amazing flavours, each curry was very unique and all well spiced. Enjoy if you go.
This restaurant is tucked away in a residential area strip mall in Martindale, in the NE. The food is delicious! I've been there almost a dozen times in the last few months even though I live in the opposite end of the city and there are many other Indian restaurants located much closer.I especially love the Shahi Paneer and an appetizer I tried that was like Aloo Tikki but with a spicy sauce on it, maybe kind of like dahl. If I could eat here every day I could easily be a happy vegetarian. My granddaughters first choice is of course butter chicken and naan, both delicious as well.Every time we've visited, there's been a line up on the other side for sweets. I always get my Gulab Jamun fix before leaving. Sadly we've quickly reached the point where he remembers what I like. If you are giving sweets as a gift, they have the most lovely boxes to present them in.Friendly service and entertaining music videos to watch while you eat. This is the real deal, I can't say I've seen any other Caucasians there yet. I take that as a good sign.
Though I am one of those odd Caucasian persons to visit, the sweets I purchased were a big hit for our afternoon tea party. The service was helpful, even though I do not speak Punjabi, I was able to get a good selection of sweet at a great price and fresh Golub Jaman. Well worth the trip across town, will definitely go back for the savoury selections.
Too bad that this place is 1,000 miles away from me. I live in Vegas and Southern Utah, and in Vegas we have hundreds of Indian restaurants, but most of them is just below average. Punjabi is real authentic Indian food. I order the Bhindi Masala, chick pea, deep fried noan with chilli paste and must say it was DELICIOUS.
This is my favourite Indian restaurant in Calgary. It's not a big restaurant but it is very big on flavour. I have eaten here many times and the food and service is always excellent. I normally buy food to takeout and it is always well packaged and very fresh. My only complaint is it is not closer to Okotoks. Just love this places.
