Avaliação da contribuiçãoChirashi pretty and good, hotate good, special hotate very good but pricey at $8.50 each piece, amaco maki okay, beef tataki very good, zaru soba a bit too hard, tempura the best, mushroom shrimp squid awesome, negitiro meh, ca roll meh. They need to put the pieces smaller next time. Love the father son duo and the vibe of the traditional modern Japanese restaurant decor. Would love to try more stuff next time!
THE BEST SUSHI I'VE EVER HAD omg!!! This was a recommendation from a friend who grew up in Calgary and goes there frequently for business. His favorite dish is the Aji tataki, which I have not tried, but plan to try next time! I was in town for a business trip as well and made it a point to go to Sushi Hiro because of the amazing things my friend said. I tried some sushi and their special mushroom soup. The next time I was in town for business, I brought my work crew and we sat at one of the big tables where you take your shoes off and sit into the ground. It was a very fun and unique experience and we had a lot of privacy at our table. We asked for our food to be selected for us and IT WAS AMAZING. Cannot go wrong with anything on the menu here. Hiro San, Takako and Yoshi from Phuket are so sweet and warm and welcoming. I can't wait to go back..
Love their sushi and sashimi, sometimes they have special Japanese sashimi which is so delicious. Unagi don and udon are also our favorites. After their recent renovations, the restaurant is more wheelchair friendly
This restaurant feels like a blast from the past, reminiscent of the 90s. It was refreshing to dine in a place that has maintained its original charm since opening. Similar to Nick's Steakhouse but with a Japanese twist, the Friday night crowd consisted mostly of regulars who were familiar with each other and the owners. I overheard a customer mention that he visits weekly and would come more often if he didn't feel it was too indulgent. The prices are reasonable, not overly expensive. My favorite dish was the nabeyaki udon, with flavorful broth and perfectly cooked traditional vegetables. The portion size was generous and reasonably priced at $14. The chirashi was served in a covered box, with a sweet pink topping resembling hard rock candy on the rice. Priced at $20, it also comes with miso soup. The tempura and chicken karrage could have used more salt, although I prefer the tempura at Red Ember. The chicken karrage was unique, with a peeled back drum giving the skin a crispy texture. I look forward to returning to try the sukiyaki and other hot pot dishes, as well as bringing my coworkers to experience their lunch menu. The service was pleasant from the servers, sushi chefs, and the hostess (possibly the owner's wife). Overall, the udon was a standout dish that I would highly recommend.
Sushi Hiro Japanese Restaurant is a casual Japanese eatery located on 5th Ave Southwest in downtown Calgary. The restaurant, though medium-sized, can be a bit tricky to find. Specializing in sushi, bento boxes, and kitchen entrees, my friend and I decided to have a late lunch there one weekday. Despite the restaurant being busy, we easily found a table. The menu was simple but lacked variety and pictures, making it a bit challenging to order. However, the server was friendly and helped us decide on the $9.50 Chicken Teriyaki and $16.50 Nigiri Sushi special to share. The Chicken Teriyaki was delicious and came in a generous portion with a side salad and rice. The Nigiri Sushi special, on the other hand, was a bit underwhelming with fresh raw fish on sushi rice. Overall, we enjoyed the Chicken Teriyaki more and found the prices to be on the higher side. Despite this, it was a nice experience to try a new Japanese restaurant in Calgary.
