Entre Panes - Cafe House - Caraz

We eat here for the two consecutive days we stayed in Caraz, Peru in March 2021 during the pandemic. Dino, the owner and Ignacio, his son, were gracious hosts who delighted us with the food, the atmosphere and stories of the charming place. I am vegetarian and not easy to please. Entre Panes has si many vegetarian options with locally fresh ingredients that turned my head fiery. The menu was written on three different chalkboards and they had all traditional Peruvian dishes as well as sandwich options, Spanish omelet and vegetarian options. I loved the Quinoa Curry with mushrooms and tomatoes! The food was delicious and the next time we travel to Caraz, Entre Panes will be our first stop for food. We went to lunch. The meat was amazing and the staff was very friendly. The atmosphere in the restaurant is very beautiful.

Our food was crazy overpriced and not very good, maybe we just ordered the wrong things, but in any case my partner got “Chicken Milanese” and he was only served a few fried chicken with French fries, which is not at all what Milanese is and we paid 22 soles for it, which would pay about 3 times what you would normally serve here in Peru. The Quinoa Curry is literally just Quinoa. That's it, good taste, but impossible to eat a bowl of just Quinoa. We had to ask for it, even if there was only one other party, and at least 4 people who seemed to work there, we only got our cutlery after our appetizer. I liked the room itself and the music and had heard good things, but honestly I don't know why this place is so high rated. Maybe we chose a bad day to go or order the wrong things from the menu? Uncertain.

We had read a lot of good comments about this place. The night we went, it was not that good (spaghetti with a few mushrooms) and quite expensive. You can find cheaper and better places in town.

The service is a little slow because they are short staff, but it is worth it. The food has really great taste. Every meal I had eaten there was really delicious. And the staff is very good.
