Shellers Relhouse - Cedar Creek

This bar has been renamed Mavericks, and the menu remains largely unchanged. They offer an excellent selection of craft beers from Austin breweries. Although we weren't too hungry, we decided to try the crab meat dip with warm pretzels. While there wasn't a lot of crab in the dip, it was still sufficient for two and absolutely delicious. We were the only patrons sitting outside, and although the service started off a bit slow, we ended up being looked after wonderfully by our server, Joe. The wait didn't bother us at all, as we enjoyed the lovely view of the trees and watched the birds. Inside, however, it was quite loud and lively!

Delicious chicken wings and tortilla soup! It gets VERY loud when the restaurant is full, so we decided to move outside to eat. Overall, it's a wonderful spot to unwind at the end of the day.

I hadn't visited this place in several years, but I wanted to treat a friend to a nice, relaxing lunch at Firewheel Café, only to discover that they no longer serve lunch. So, we decided to check out the Barrelhouse Bar instead. I must say right off the bat that the food was outstanding. The brisket sandwich was fantastic, and the fries were some of the best I've ever had. The desserts were enjoyable as well, and the coffee was superb. However, the service left much to be desired. We were seated for about ten minutes before anyone acknowledged us, and it took another ten minutes for our drinks—iced tea and coffee—to arrive. To my surprise, my coffee was served in a take-out cup! I had to ask for a regular mug, request sugar, and then ask for a spoon since it wasn’t included with my coffee. Lastly, when the check arrived, there was no pen provided, so I had to go to the bar to ask for one. Do servers not learn the basics of good service anymore? While I was pleased with the food, I was very disappointed with the service.

My experience at this restaurant was disappointing. From the hostess to the service, everything fell short, with the exception of the citrus chicken, which was quite good. Given the prices, I expected much better overall quality.

Delicious food, large TVs for game viewing, excellent drinks, and outstanding service.
