Avaliação da contribuiçãoSat outside and enjoyed the perfect weather. Sushi was very fresh and presentation was beautiful. Enjoyed Ikura (salmon roe), Ninja Roll, Scallop Crunch Roll and Thai Iced Tea. This restaurant is walking distance from Chico State University with a wonderful view of the City Plaza.
A very mixed experience, to put it mildly. In terms of what they did well: my poke bowl was quite good, as was the tuna shaka appetizer. That being said, there were some serious issues during our lunch there. The service was subpar: we waited nearly half an hour for my wife's entree: when it came, the sashimi plate was bland and extremely cold. Drinks took forever to get a refill, and dish bussing was basically non-existent. They clearly don't have the wait staff to support a full place. Management was kind enough to take my the sashimi off the bill, but one would expect that for the kind of service we got. There are better, cheaper Japanese places in town. I won't be returning any time soon, that's for sure. For $30-40/person, the standards just aren't there.
The portions are really small so just order a bunch of stuff and don’t worry about it you can’t fill yourself up here no matter how much you order. The prices aren’t horrible but you’re paying more for the presentation than the taste of the food. The food tastes quite boring there’s very little complexity but the plating is quite cute. It’s incredibly loud even on the deck and people drive by in their cars and do burnouts leaving tire and exhaust smoke. I know that raw bar has no control over this but the location choice was bad. The service was attentive. If you want to impress a Chico local with no taste I’m sure they would be happy to be here so they can post on their Facebook account.
Absolutely stellar!! We were seated at the sushi bar and the 2 rolls we ordered were stellar with unique elements we typically don’t see (crunchy pistachio bits anyone? then we were casually mentioning how we should have ordered a third roll. Mind you it’s close to closing time so we weren’t going to. But to our surprise one of the chefs heard us and said they would be happy to squeeze in something special for us. So another chef stepped in a made us a gorgeous surprise roll not on their menu. It was honestly one of the best sushi rolls we’ve ever had, with more surprises! (Ever had bits of fruit to top your roll? No? You need to right now!! anyway, 10/10 I whole heartedly recommend this place.
This sushi is better than most places in SF where you pay 3x as much, AND the servers and bartenders recommend the best dishes and drinks.
