For me, this hotel ticks all the boxes for Afternoon Tea. I've eaten Afternoon Tea there around 5-6 times over the past couple of years and it never fails to impress. Food is excellent (as are the cocktails), lovely service, non-pretentious atmosphere, great location, good value. I probably go for Aft T once per month in London and this is one of the few places that I return to.
Lovely staff, food was tasty and well presented. A little more variety would have been nice, but I'm sure you can get that in the pricier Ametsa next door, which I'll definitely be trying next. Good value too, at £4 to £6 per dish.
Tea at the Halkin was outstanding sandwiches and savories were delicious sweets were gorgeous service was prompt and attentive ambience low key and stylish. Traditional afternoon tea without the affectations.
It's about a year since I was at lunch in the halkin. ametsa with Arzak instruction already has a Michelin star and is the londonist debuter of one of the most famous restaurants in the basken region of Spain – three-Michelin-starred arzak. and, as I discovered on a recent trip to san sebastian, arzak itself is considered greener by new basque cuisine. so the idea of a Basque afternoon tea, with perhaps more concrete on hearty than sweet tasty, was fascinating.
