Fish On Fire - Danville

Updated review after 3 years. San Ramon and Danville has a handful of Japanese restaurants, and it looks like Fish on Fire has been around a while. We normally frequent Yayume and Senro, but decided to come back here for dinner after catching Blade Runner at Century Blackhawk. Their menu was much bigger than I last remember. Offering full range of hot and raw entrees, along with trifecta of Japanese Noodles: ramen, udon, and soba. Of these, I believe they are best at seafood udon. My wife ordered their miso ramen combo (added avocado roll average and nothing special (3 stars . Stick with their udon! The better dishes from our dinner were: Veggie Tempura: Nice variety and fried nicely my review from 3 years ago also praised their tempura, especially Japanese pumpkin. (4 stars Yakitori Skewers: A bit of a surprise instead of chicken skewers we got marinated chicken mixed with grilled veggies. Pretty good dish meat and veggies cooked properly and good char grilled flavors. (4 stars . Nigiri 10 piece: Fish were fresh and the rice was seasoned and still packed a bit tighter than I like, but not bad. The free side salad and miso soup were actually decent (4 stars . Overall, decent Japanese restaurant that offers sushi, sashimi, and more. They seem to excel at tempura, yakitori, and udon (which we regret not ordering! . Maintaining 4 stars.

Fish on Fire serves some of the best pieces of sushi in the East Bay! I really enjoyed this place, but they are pretty pricey. Since you can get a Groupon deal here, my friends I dined here twice. We ordered the Fish on Fire Signature Combo #3 at $99.95, which is a lot of food designed for four people. We were four guys, and this was a lot of food for the four of us! I posted a bunch photos of this Signature Combo. This meal included a couple of appetizers, which was a combo tempura ika karaage. There were 16 sashimi pieces that were the chef 's choice; and 12 pieces sushi, which were also the chef 's choice. The special rolls included Mt. Fuji with grilled beef teriyaki and your choice of two udon. Their fish pieces were huge, fresh very flavorful. As I mentioned, their prices are pretty high, but definitely worth it when you get a Groupon deal; which we got a discounted price for a gift certificate for Fish on Fire . The next time we get another Groupon deal.., we will definitely order that and dine here again!

You may have different things that you might need when you have a bad day at work but this day was one of those days for me. One of those I can feel the ticking time bomb about to explode from stress if I don't get away from people I work with and customers for one hour. All I needed was an hour to just escape the drudgery of dealing with the human race. This hour I happily filled with a lovely bowl of Seafood Udon soup and some succulent pieces of Maguro Sashimi. The waitress let me pick my seat. Which was in a corner by the front window. The only seat there and I had my back to the rest of the place. It was the perfect seat. I didn't have to see anyone while I relaxed on my lunch break. For starters I had the Maguro Sashimi. It was all of excellent quality and had the gorgeous red color that makes me drool. Coupled with a light salad of the normal kind that is served at an establishment such as this. My main course was a giant bowl of Seafood Udon. It was a spectacular thing to behold. The quality and mix of seafood was everything I had hoped for. The best part of the soup was the Mussels. They were giant! Not only that but very good. I was impressed. I broke out into a sweat by the end of it. It was a monumental lunch to eat but I needed it. The waitress asked if everything was fine and it was more than fine. I'm bummed that the weather is so warm now because I would probably eat here every other day. Every day might be to much but for the first time in my life I'm looking forward to cooler weather. Or a stressful day to gorge my self into a happier mood. A big steaming bowl of happier mood that is.

A rare 5 rating from me, this place has amazingly fresh food, creative combinations, and variety of food udons, sushi, rice plates, etc). Set up as a hole-in-the-wall, this rating hinges on 2 things: great food and super friendly service. GREAT FOOD: -love the variety and strange combinations. Lots of spicy rolls too... yum! -Drunken dragon is fantastic: flambé roll with gives it a slightly cooked texture and allow the flavors to mix. Plus a fun experience!!! -They have a good kids special for those 12 and under that makes going out with the family less financially burdensome. We paid a bit more for Chicken Katsu, and it was probably the best Panko breaded chicken fillet the kids have ever had they made sure to let us know). we hear the Chicken teriyaki is also good. Kids bento box comes with California rolls and 4 gyozas. Score! -They have a draft mini fridge looking thing. Freshly served Sapporo was delish. -For dessert, we got the classic mochi: mango and strawberry! FRIENDLY SERVICE: Hey, we waited 35 mins to be seated, but we always felt welcome, like good old friends. Looks like it is a family owned business husband and wife, maybe one of the servers is family), and they strive to make people happy. Frequently check to make sure you're doing great, and genuinely hoping you enjoy the food. What to expect: -The place is quite small, sitting area does not offer lots of space, so you'll dine close to strangers. No worries, the crowd that comes here are families and young professionals, all very nice. -You will likely have to wait for a table we went on a Friday night and waited 35 mins for our turn). There will be a clipboard up front where you can wrote down your name on the list and wait patiently. No space/sitting area to wait BTW. -Lots of orders to go which may slow down your dine-in orders. While we were there, at least 4 families came in, picked up bags and left. Seems like some local regulars. -Its location is good, within a nice r) suburbia strip mall. However parking is scarce, so you may need to circle around a couple of times. There are other restaurants and a gym in this mall which seems to make it a hot destination on weekend nights. Drunken dragon: my fave.

Love it! Got here just before they got SWAMPED!! Lil waitress had her hands full attending to every table in the house. Backup showed up and the rolls started coming out.. delicious! We irdered spicey jamie and spider to start...if you love spicey order Jamie. We also had: base ball 2, james dean, dragon and my most favorite ::: out of control!! Tiny spot, fresh, clean, hospitable, just GO. Worth it We drove all the way over from Brentwood and we werent disappointed. Tip- go early it takes a while to get your rolls and limited seating. We arrived at 5:30pm they open at 5pm. 5:40pm no tables left..wait time 45m
