This meal was delicious and reasonably priced. The service was competent and cheerful. The reason I am giving 3 stars instead of 5 is that their smoke alarm is constantly beeping loudly, and this is very distracting and annoying to me. I was told they have no plans to fix it (that is, replace the battery). It is pretty high up and would probably require a ladder.
I have found that it is important that I always add that I am an American to my reviews of Filipino restaurants. I find this important because we Americans have a much different taste when it comes to food. Although some Americans like Filipino food, I don 't. That said, I am torn by my first visit to Grub Resto Cafe. I will start with the cons. First problem is no available parking. The prices are a little high for the portions and most Philippine restaurants. For those that are vegans, you want to be aware that it seems some terms are not very well understood here in the Philippines. You may think you are getting a vegan meal but in fact animal fat may be involved. Since I am not a vegan, this problem didn 't effect me. The vegan soup was very nice except for a heavy amount of salt in it. I liked that the calamari was not cooked in palm oil and was not chewy but it was still oily. I ordered the BBQ ribs. My wife mentioned to the waiter that I don 't like fat. He said there was very little fat. Turns out it was mostly fat. Very little meat on two small ribs. There were two women preparing some sort of cakes or baking goods on a few tables where customers would sit. Not so much a problem but I did think it a bit odd. At the time we went there (around 2-3 p.m. there were only us and another couple. One thing you don 't seem to find here in the Philippines is a menu with pictures. There were no pictures on the single sheet menu. I was disappointed that the items I saw on Groupon and Grub Resto 's Facebook page showed many choices of desserts. There is only three desserts available. The other desserts are only available for catering. The two older women working there could have acknowledge customers and smile. As with any Philippine restaurant I have been in, I always have a problem with the lack of waiters visiting tables to see if anything the customer may need or want, including the check. The pros. The ambiance is very cute. Kind of reminds me of beach towns in Southern California or South Florida. The waiters were all very nice and accommodating. It was raining so one of the waiters followed a couple to their car with an umbrella. The restroom is fairly clean with a toilet seat. There is also tissue and soap to wash your hands. The sauce on the ribs was okay. The cold slaw was okay as well but I would add a few raisins in it. A plus for Filipino restaurants is the sound level of music. Most often it is way too loud. Thinking back I don 't know if there was any music. If it was it was not intrusive at all. I much appreciate that very much! Over all, I will most likely visit Grub Resto Cafe in the future. The only reason I gave it less than a 'Very Good ' rating is because of the fatty ribs and the fact that it was only two small ribs (but then it was only 125 pesos . Our total was just under 600 pesos for the entire meal. One coke, soup, calamari, ribs, chicken and vegetables.
My favorite lunch spot. Great food selection and the taste is always spot on! Easy on the budget heavy on the belly.
Food's okay but some items are quite pricey compared to other restaurants that provide similar items.
