Update 2/20/19 this place is now Garcia's; see my updated review there. New ownership. Boy did I want to like this place because its convenient, a refreshing addition to Marlboro Pike, and black owned. 2 stars because the owners are very customer friendly as opposed to the Chinese carryout places that surrounds this place offering the same type of food. 2 stars also for making the food cooked to order. But the smoothie was not sweet at all and just tasted weird, the desserts way overpriced for the amount you get, food way overpriced : Whiting 2 nice sized pieces nice and hot but bland and kinda fishy tasting , barbecue chicken was good but SALTY, cabbage pretty good (I like my cabbage on the crunch side), Mac n cheese just say no smh, greens pretty decent nothing special, corn muffin good, potato salad is a double just say no, boy I wish I had tasted that first, vinegar, vinegar, and more vinegar couple with crunchy potatoes and no seasoning YUCK. Sorry for the bad review but there are a lot of food items to improve upon. Inside of the place is nice small and quaint I really liked the artists paintings. I hope this business stays around and this is just a learning curve.
Craved some fried fish but didn't feel like cooking it. I decided to stop in since I always drive by the location. Its a small house like structure next to seven eleven so im expecting it to look homey on the inside. I walk inside the fish house and I'm in awe at the beautiful decor, the beautiful sea blue on the walls and the paintings just really make it pop. It's clean on the inside, smells like good food and I'm ready to eat. The wait is not too bad as everything is made to order. The lady behind the counter is very pleasant and the cook was smiling the entire time. She gives me the bag and we exchange pleasantries and I leave. When I get to the car, I tear open the box like a savage cause I'm now starving. Open the box and the portions are huge!!! Baby let me get into this fish, well seasoned and good asf!! Now this is whiting!! Garcia, I will be back...I'm sold!
Tried this place on a limb. I was not satisfied. The cabbage was hard without any seasoning. The Mac Cheese was cheese and mushy noodles. The only thing I enjoyed was the fried catfish.
When you visit Maryland it's a rule (at least for me) that you have to stop and get some seafood at least once. A couple weekends ago, my boyfriend, our friend, and I were visiting a friend of ours in the Capitol Hill area, and within the first few hours of being in-state we decided to go to lunch at Fishouse. We checked Yelp to see what was food was available nearby, and for us it was between BBQ and some good fried fish. Fried fish is one of my favorite comfort foods, and it wasn't long before we settled on Fishouse as our lunchtime spot. Once I saw the menu, my first choice was crabcakes. They were out of crabcakes, though, so catfish was my second choice with sides of greens and mac and cheese, and a corn muffin. My boyfriend got the same thing, which turned out to be a good choice so we didn't have to share! Our friend got the blackened shrimp and it looked amazing and perfectly seasoned. After eating what felt like a ton, I had enough left over for a whole other meal. Before we arrived, I read some previous Yelp reviews that mentioned how good the greens were, and delicious would be an understatement! They were smoky, juicy, and just the right amount of salty. For less than $25 for my boyfriend and I together, this was a great deal. I'm not sure when we'll be in the area again, but when we are we'll definitely be back.
