Gelston House, LLC - East Haddam

I wanted to LOVE this place since we were dining with special friends prior to a Christmas Concert next door at the Goodspeed Opera House. The interior was very pretty, but missing that certain something. Many of the Christmas lights were out, the waiter could not find a match to light the candles on the table ??? and although there were many empty tables when we got there for an early dinner, they squished several other parties in next to us. The Prix Fixe dinner was a good deal and the food was very good. I would definitely recommend if going to the show next door since there are not a lot of choices in the area, but since we live about 90 minutes away, I would not return just for dinner

The food was outstanding!! Prices were reasonable for the quality of our meals. Service was excellent!!!

Convenient to Goodspeed. Brought our daughter for the show and she only eats a few things. Restaurant accommodated. Very nice waiter. My crab cakes were missing the crab so they were soggy bread cakes with a horrible topping. The better glass of Sav. Blanc was dreadful. Seafood bisque was missing the seafood and served in wide bowl so cooled off fast.

I had a reservation for 8 and we arrived about 45 minutes early and were seated right away. The food was cooked correctly and served appropriately. They don't have a huge menu, BUT, what they have on the menu, they know how to cook to perfection. Lobster mac and cheese is HIGHLY recommended. Serving portions were more than adequate, and reasonably priced. Only down side was they didn't serve the Blue Moon beer with an orange slice. Our waitress was very attentive and timely, so good job there as well.

Theatre night however server was very scattered and we had to ask for utensils for each course. Had to ask for fresh pepper and then discovered hairs in vegetables. Server discounted the entree. Definitely not worth the prices. No manager present in dining room and food courses very rushed even though arrived 2 1/2 hours before theatre and asked for meal to be paced. Then dessert was communicated as pumpkin chocolate pie. Came out as peanut butter chocolate pie. Glad we didn’t have but allergy. Anyway. Some attention to detail and training of service staff around knowledge of meals and utensil usage. Everyone was very nice though.
