Best Mexican cuisine I had outside New Mexico/Arizona. To be clear, we are pampered by many visits in New Mexico, so it can be difficult when it comes to Mexican food. I have two enchiladas (one with red sauce, one with green) and one Chili Relleno, and they were all very good, especially the Chili Relleno. Next time I would order two Chili Relleno and one Enchilada with red sauce. My wife got two chicken enchiladas with red sauce and a bean tostada, and she rated the meal 3.5 out of 5. It is worth noting that the roasted beans were very good. Most restaurants do not try very hard on the beans, and they tend to be beans. These beans were very seasoned and were quite delicious with rice. The free chips and salsa were a highlight. I had never seasoned salsa as strong as these. You can taste the Cumin in salsa. Very unique. Service was very good. We have eaten less than five minutes after the order, and our waiter was friendly and attentive. We both agreed it's really good for Colorado Mexican. Not as good as New Mexico standards, but much better than anything we can find in Florida.
Most places in Estes Parks are a tourist trap with over priced meals however Mex-Kal is different! The food is reasonably priced and has amazing flavor. For those who love eating healthy I recommend ordering the pollo azado burrito. The green salsa carries an authentic Mexican flavor that I loved. The Mexican burrito with shredded beef is great too! Lastly, the service is very kind and accommodating. This place was worth the wait/money!
Best old school Mexican restaurant in Estes Park. The service is on point call ahead orders are brought out fast, definitely recommend by a Native Coloradoan Hispanic
We are originally from Louisiana and have just spent 5 years in WA state that has some of the most polluting foods in the country. When we came south, we hoped what we called Tex-Mex. When we took our first bites, our eyes were huge and we both said Tex-Mex! Food was amazing, service excellent, what else can you ask?
