Ordered the halibut tacos microwaved, rubbery, no taste or flavor whatsoever. We sent them back and got beef tacos same thing, boring, no flavor. Server was untrained and unable to answer any questions regarding the menu. The bar was out of the first two beers I ordered. Will not be returning ever.
Our time at Gallo's was pleasant for both our stomachs and eyes . The bright and colorful decor helped us forget that we were in Fairbanks, Alaska, in December . The delicious food made us feel that we had visited a place many miles to the south . The hospitality of those working at Gallo's made us feel that they had welcomed us into their home .
I ordered the dinner plate with a taco, enchilada, chile relleno with rice and beans on the side. I asked for whole beans, and they were tasteless, watery and filled half the plate. The rice also had no taste. The enchilada and chile relleno were doused in a sweet sauce, not a chile sauce; apparently they only use a mole sauce. The chile relleno was hard to distinguish under the sauce, the coating had basically melted to nothing. Service was minimal, my glass of water was refilled (from empty) only when the server brought my check. I had to ask for a knife and spoon as there was only a fork with the food. Don't try asking for red or green chile sauce...they don't have it.
I am from Texas and this is REALLY good. It is also one of the most beautiful restaurants I have seen. Food was outstanding and reasonable priced. Service was also outstanding. When I go back this is a definite stop.
I got a signature steak dish (like fajitas), meat was tough and portion was small. Paid $20 for the meal and it just wasnt worth it.
