Awww yeah son, this thing is everything you want in a big bowl of chilli-laden delicious, and the key is in the broth. It's compex, with creamy coconut, wonderfully subtle fish flavours, and the warm sambal kick topped out with noodles, bean sprouts and giant, firm king prawns that are almost a meal unto themselves. They'll make it mild if you want, but you don't want that. You want your face to scream in delight, you want to singe your eyebrows off, you want your tone writhing around in throes of ecstasy. Get it as spicy as you dare. It ain't the cheapest going around at $16.90, but this is the North Shore so there's that. The curry puffs are super good, too, and you can buy the home-made sambal in little tubs to take away for $4. You're gonna want to do that. The ice cream at the end was just okay, but by then the battle was well and truly won.
The food here is truly fantastic! I highly recommend trying the char kway teow and the nasi goreng—both were incredible. Just a heads up, they've changed their name.
Despite having passed by this restaurant many times over the years, this was our first visit. The staff were accommodating, and the menu looked promising. I probably should have followed the recommendation to try the laksa, but since nasi lemak is one of my favorites, I opted for that along with pork rolls as an appetizer, while my companion chose a noodle dish. Unfortunately, the pork rolls did not meet my expectations; they were quite greasy and lacked flavor. The nasi lemak with beef rendang was also a letdown. The rendang was watery, filled with what seemed to be shredded coconut, and it wasn’t very flavorful at all. The rice, overly rich with coconut milk, was heavy and stodgy. On a positive note, the roti was good, and my companion enjoyed her noodle dish, although the shrimp seemed to come from a can. Overall, I wouldn't return—there are much better options in the area.
Absolutely five stars! The service is top-notch, and the food is delicious, all thanks to a family-owned operation that genuinely treats you like one of their own. I highly recommend the laksa—it's the best I've ever had in Sydney!
I want to spread the word about your amazing restaurant to more people in Northbridge and the lower North Shore. Everyone should come and experience the authentic Malaysian cuisine at Bagus. The food is truly intricate and delicious. Our top choice was the Sambal Eggplant—absolutely to die for!
