Gilles Frozen Custard - Fond du Lac

I like the custard and the food has always been ok. My trouble lies with ownership. The car hops are exclusively women who meet their standards of attraction. I won’t eat here any longer

The service was excellent, with nostalgic car hops reminiscent of the past. The malts were some of the best I’ve had in a long time. For anyone from the northwest side of Chicago who remembers the Buffalo, Gilles’ malts are just as good!

Great frozen custard all the time and great service

Genuine American original. Highest quality custard sundaes. Long local history with car hop service. Worthy of destination status. Disclaimer: I grew up in Fond du Lac. 2023: Everything I said above plus a spectacular variety of sundae, shake and malt choices. Also burgers, hot dogs. Gillieburgers and sides. Even better today because they've kept it all and do it so well.

Staff is SO friendly, drive up is fun to experience and sitting at a table is also cool when the weather is nice! Tip well! Because these ladies are out and about in the sun on VERY hot days, or buy them a water $2.00) for them to drink when they can! Beware of wasps/hornets in the summer/spring though, that good food drives them to you! The root beer shake is AMAZING and their cheese curds are better than Culver's admittedly a little oily). I have plans to try their grasshopper shake next! My only ick is the gilledog, they use their sloppy Joe meat for it and it's lacking. The hotdog alone is great! The issue is that they order the hotdog as so: bun/sloppy Joe meat/hotdog/ kraft cheese Ideally it would go bun, hotdog, sloppy Joe or chilli), shredded cheese The sloppy Joe meat in the hotdog taste bland, it has some onion and some bell pepper but it's just not enough flavor to mix with the hotdog hot dogs I believe are beef, not pork) Their Burgers are GREAT Ice cream is GREAT Service is GREAT Just don't get the gilledog if you're expecting a chilli dog! They are not the same!
