Bockenheimer Weinkontor

This is a nice place to enjoy some wine in good company. Enter the gate, go down the stairs from the courtyard, and you will find yourself in an unexpected cosy place.

We reserved the large table, the reservation was for 18 persons. When we arrived we were reseated twice, both times along tables that did not have enough space for all of us. The owner was very rude, so finally we left.

Located in an inner court, you need to go a couple steps down to enter the Bockenheimer weinkontor that is located in what seems to be a former warehouse. The place is very cozy with soft music and candle light. There is a large choice...of white and red wine from Germany but also from abroad and some small snacks if you feel like eating. The glass of wine is about 5-6e. In the summer there is a large terrace to enjoy the weather in a very green atmosphere. The place is often full, so if you want to go there at the end of the week or during weekend, make sure to make a reservation or be willing to stand.

Hidden: It's really hard to spot. Find address by street and number. See wrought iron sign set in top of arched gateway. To enter, pass through gateway into first yard, then take stairs down to front door one level below. Choose from quaint indoor or...rustic rear yard seating (weather permitting . Gem: the atmosphere is really friendly and relaxed. Choose from a broad selection of wines, white red or sparkling, local, national and international. They serve really good quality in all price ranges. Staff can help you choose. Prices moderate to low. Beers and non alcoholic also available. Small menu of tasty snack foods, also priced moderately. The place is not small, but fills up quickly. Reservations strongly advised for groups. Reserve day before or earlier, see below. The time... : Reconsider coming here if you are in a hurry and/or very thirsty. Most nights you fetch your party's drinks yourself at the bar. Proprietor lady is (in famous for taking her time with each order. Guests will have to queue and wait patiently. Opens 6pm, will not answer phone earlier in the day. Obviously, revenue is not a big concern here :

It is nice that some locals (almost) do not change: in winter in the fireplace, in summer outside in the beautiful courtyard. Always beautiful!
