With the museum being closed for COVID-19 it provides an opportunity to explore the grounds and the 1/2 mile loop around the backside of the fort. Trail on dirt, rocky ground with incline but not too strenuous if taking it at a slow pace. Enjoyed reading about the various landmarks and plants along the trail.
Great place to visit. The fort is really cool with several levels and a great representation of what spring would have been used for. You have a cop with huge horns and a mule. There is also a large short walk behind the fortress, which has a beautiful view and was a simple hike for the small children and some older people as well. We went during COVID-19 and there was no fee and masks were needed in the fort.
This is a beautiful small park, unique in that they have some cattle (a horse and a cow) and cultivated vegetable gardens in accordance with the history of the site as Mormon Ranch facility. We went in August 2020. The visitor center was closed to walkable traffic, but Rangers were on site to provide information and the toilets were open. We enjoyed our walk through the website.
Quite an unusual place in the middle of nowhere. The sign along the highway caught my attention and we just had to stop, more for curiosity than anything else. It's the kind of place where you might spend an hour, to break up the drive on Highway 389 in the Fredonia area. There are park rangers there and some volunteers to demonstrate how things were done by the settlers there. A fort is also on-site and yes, there is a small spring providing water. The spring itself is basically underneath the fort but a pipe brings water from it to some holding basins. There is a nice visitor center on-site (closed due to COVID). It's nice to just walk around the place a little and stretch your legs. It's very, very quiet there. I suppose in the summer it's pretty unbearable but the temps in November make it quite pleasant.
