1910 Pub - Glen Cove

We had NYE dinner at the mansion. The entrance was decorated for an upcoming party. Staff was bare bones, probably because they were preparing for the party. This place has an aura of times gone by, while overworked staff struggle to keep it going. The feeling and smell of age and fatigue emanates throughout, you have decide if that's a good thing or bad thing. The Pratts shiplapped ceiling dining room was empty when we arrived. There were many old men in suits with their sugar babies at the bar. The bar tender turned out to be our waiter. He was very nice and did his best to accommodate us. He was also the only staff member at the place that actually spoke to us. The others looked overworked and annoyed. Much of the bare bones (2 page) menu entrees was not available. No wine list. Just Merlot or Cabernet. Odd especially for such a special day. I had the Mussels appetizer, it was mealy, half of them were not open. The sauce was good though. Our party had most of what was available from the menu. The Carbonara was creamy, and pasta Al dente. Overall food was ok but nothing to warrant going back for. As a former hospitality person, I see so much potential for this place. I hope they figure it out before the sands of time washes it away, mansion and all.

Our first visit left a lot to be desired. There was no salt or pepper on the tables. I had to go and ask for water to be brought to the table and it was not refilled. It also tasted like the lines hadn't been cleaned in awhile. My side dish of asparagus was forgotten. Service took a considerable amount of time, there were about 15 customers in all. The next visit we sat at the bar 4 of only 5 customers, the bar keep was pleasant and attentive.

When you order the catch of the day and the lobster, and the mashed potatoes are the best part of the meal you know you are in trouble. The food was frozen and stale, the service was slow and we had to ask for knives with each course. The couple next to us left before their dessert because it was taking too long. The waitress didn't offer them coffee or a drink to make up for the time while they were waiting The decor is dated and dim. It's like you're eating in some remote location on vacation because you can't find a nice restaurant. The pictures of the mansion show the first floor. The restaurant, Pratts, is in what was obviously the servants quarters odd the mansion. The music was loud, although it was the best post of the evening, and diners at two tables near us were vaping during the meal. No one from the restaurant asked then to stop. Pretty awful dining experience given how many other places we could have chosen during restaurant week on Long Island.

My girlfriend and I were there for Restaurant Week. Long story short I would never go back. Actual long story... The restaurant is on the 3rd floor of the mansion, in what was probably the servants ' area. The decor is nothing fancy. It 's a real let-down from when you are pulling into the driveway of a big mansion thinking that you are going to a really nice place. There is no wine list. There are 2 whites and 2 reds served by the glass. No mention of brand names or prices but they seem to be $12 per glass no matter what you order. Both of our appetizers were very good. Buratta and bay scallops. However, when they arrived we realized that there were no knives on the table, which we had to ask for. I had the filet mignon which was very good. The mashed potatoes were good. I didn 't love the mixed vegetables because there were too many peppers and not a whole lot of anything else. Any time you see lobster tails on the menu in any restaurant, you have to know that they are frozen. No restaurant is killing fresh live lobsters for their tails. Having said that my girlfriend had the fish of the day which was Branzino and the lobster tail and she said that the mashed potatoes were the best part of her dinner. Meanwhile at two other tables people were vaping and nobody was telling them that it 's actually illegal as well as a nuisance to other customers. After dinner the couple next to us started talking to us about how bad the service had been. Apparently they had been waiting a long time for their desserts. He said to the waitress It 's two pieces of cake. You either have them or you don 't. and I had to agree with him. They told the waitress to forget about the desserts and asked for their check. They were not offered a free drink or anything. I hope they got a discount on their prix fixe dinners since they didn 't get the last course. Our desserts came out relatively on time but we were never asked if we would want a second glass of wine, and they don 't have any cappuccino or anything other than regular drip coffee. My flourless chocolate cake had a pathetic puddle of white liquid next to it which I assume was supposed to be whipped cream, but the cake was good, and my girlfriend also said that the Nutella crepe was good. All things considered I would never eat at this restaurant again. There are too many better places.

Went to Pratts for the first time during LI Restaurant Week. Pratts is located in the Glen Cove Mansion. I was expecting an upscale dining experience. I had to climb two flights of stairs to get there. There was a raucous children's party behind me in the room. There were only a few diners there. The place was bereft of ambiance. It had the atmosphere of a local bar. My dinner choice arrived. I had the lobster croquet over cole slaw, which tasted like an egg roll. I then got my entree which was the short ribs over polenta. Very enjoyable! My dessert choice was the chocolate soufflé. It was really a chocolate lava cake with no lava. Would not go back.
