The food is usually exceptional; however, today it was below average (I gave the food 3 Stars only due to the catfish was great). The fried chicken looked good but it had a burned flavor on two of the three meals (the other was catfish) and it wasn’t seasoned as it used to be. We’ve always thought their fried chicken was one of the best, but if this had been our first visit, I’m not sure we would go back again. The Mac and cheese wasn’t good, the dressing was gritty and the mash potatoes didn’t have any flavor. I’m not sure if the chicken batter recipe has been changed, but if so, I hope they go back to the recipe it once was. This may have just been one of those days that things weren’t great so we’ll try it again another time. Such a great place to eat. The staff is phenomenal... Happy, talkative, makes you feel warm and welcome. The portions are big, and everything I've tried is top notch. Had the liver and catfish. Excellent soul food. Always a good meal at a good price. My favorite side is the simple but excellent macaroni and tomatoes. I tend to almost alway get chicken livers or catfish. The chicken dressing and chicken and dumplings are winners too. Staff is always sweet and super friendly. Love the place.
