There will be another restaurant in this building to nothing planned yet. Also, the recently reopened Gualala Hotel is also out-of-business. At this writing, the only place in Gualala for a sit down meal with a half decent wine list and a full bar is Cove Azul.
We stumbled upon this restaurant after hours of drive from San Francisco toward Mendocino for a mini getaway. After visiting several beaches along the scenic hwy 1, the sky was getting dark and we were tired and hungry. We were worried that we could not find a restaurant in the middle of nowhere until we drove by Gualala. The pizza restaurant was just closed, but the owner was so nice to recommend Sandbar across the street. We dragged our tiresome body over and were surprised to a breathtaking ocean view through the glass wall. The ambient and decor were modern and comforting. The food and service were decent. The restaurant was a hidden gem for tourists like us for the view. We'll be back the next time we drive along the scenic highway.
This place probably only exists for the view, because clearly they don't care about the food. Everything was over cooked, under cooked or Misprepaired.
Had dinner at this restaurant last night and it was very bad. Claim chowder was so bad we sent it back after one bite. The steak was so thinly cut why bother to ask how you want it cooked. My girlfriend had the cheeseburger which was just ok.
Service was great. Food was pretty good. Although the calamari was chewy the potatoes were over roasted. Salad was huge, but good. We both enjoyed our main courses. We ordered the crab stuffed salmon the sea food scampi platter. You can't beat the view though either. There are many places to sit and enjoy the ocean view.
