Apologies but need to set the scene before the food review. OK so I was on a camping trip and Googled Curry Houses near Porthmadog. I then put my trust in the reviews. So this place is in middle of nowhere but lovely setting. We turned up and you get this sense of dread as it does look very run down with some dodgy extension on the back. I used to live in London so you get to know worrying curry house signs. But the nagging question was the place had good and what looked like genuine reviews. I walked in to check it was open. Place was empty and asking the waitress (very friendly and helpful) for a table she did seem to pause as if it was fully booked (no reservation signs on table) before allocating me a table for me and my teenagers. Inside it seemed stuck in the past with what looked like garish wallpaper tablecloths. In my head, a voice was shouting run but it had ben a long day and I was hungry and tired British Stiff Upper Lip not wanting to make a scene (also car was facing wrog way for quick getaway). We will know if it is bad tomorrow morning I reassured my children. Dad there is a sticker in the window saying 3 stars out of 5 for hygiene ? There was no alcohol drinks just fizzy drinks and free jugs of water. Later customers brought their own booze. I started to relax a bit as what appeared locals came in for large takeaways can 't be bad can it ? In trepidation, we placed our order. After a reasonable wait food turned up and was nicely presented by a friendly waiter. Two Kormas and a Pathia, rice, chips (one teenager did not want rice) and garlic Naan. Well like the bottom bit of rollercoaster after worrying build up the food was really good even go as far as to say the Pathia was one of the best I have had. Naan was lovely. My teenager loved the chips which had been cooked crispy. All of it eaten except the left over chips which went with us in a box and finished later. I would give 5 out of 5 but really the decor, drinks etc. need a bit of a shake up. Maybe also think of doing delivery, there are several large campsites in the area where I know people would love a curry.
I am lucky to live close enough to this Tandoori restaurant to be able to call it my ‘local’. As a family, we have without fail, always had exceptionally high quality, perfectly cooked food at this establishment. The menu is varied and cater for every taste on the ‘heat’ scale(hubby particularly enjoys a Dansak) and the list of House specials is mouthwatering! The staff are always friendly and welcoming too. Highly recommended.
Food ready when arrived to pick up and all as ordered. Mango chutney nice and smooth and flavoursome, pilau rice fairly fragrant and tasty and mains cooked with good quality meat chicken and lamb options. Only negative was that the naans were a bit overdone and quite tough/chewy, couldn't really taste the cheese. Would revisit/recommend to friends.
Love going here with my girlfriend's family who are local(ish). The chicken momo starter is something I've never seen anywhere else so get excited about every time. The meat is generally really high quality and the prices are very reasonable, so worth the drive. Would highly recommend.
