Cute little restaurant... nicely decorated makes you feel like you're really in China eating...
True Score- 2.8/5 Stars After a tough week, and moving back to Hamilton, we decided to order some Asian style cuisine. Asian Lantern is a small, yet awesome restaurant. Unfortunately, for me, the food just wasn’t as good as the building. (Forgot to take pics so sorry for the bad one attached) I ordered the General Tso’s combo with white rice, and my fiancè ordered the Orange chicken combo, but subbed the rice for lo mein noodles. Both orders of chicken suffered the same- just not enough flavor. The chicken itself is cooked VERY well, and is meaty and tender. The breading is also firm and hardly with any bristle. The problem is, the sauce just wasn’t flavorful on each dish. The flavor was too faint for us. The lo mein noodles were also very bland, and pretty dry. The combos with the lo mein substitute and a can of dr pepper ran me about 21 dollars on takeout, so no tax. I’m all for supporting a local business, but the food just did not justify the price. Although, I don’t think the pricing is absurd or anything. Service was great. The guy working the register was very sociable and my food was packaged very, very neatly. Facilities are the best part. Ample seating, and LOOKED clean. I got takeout, so I am not certain. Also, the sign says you can BYOB, so thats dope. I think coming here on a weeknight with some buddies to sit and hang would be ideal. Overall, pretty average. Wasn’t blown away, but I would definitely give it another shot. I would describe the food as serviceable, and it really has potential to be a great little restaurant. Support small businesses, people! NOTE: Star rating based on my own formula consisting of flavor, cost, facilities, service, and overall satisfaction. Reviews are subject to change based on future visits.
Shrimp w/pea pods was very good. Shrimp were good size and very tasty. My wife enjoyed her cashew chicken. The egg rolls are outstanding...best in Hamilton! The sweet sour sauce is delicious. FYI...This is a small family owned and operated restaurant. The decor is not fancy, but the restaurant is clean and comfortable. Meal orders are often taken by one of two boys, and meals are served by their mother. Very nice people. The owners recently updated their dining area because someone drove their vehicle thru the front of the restaurant. The new look is very nice with improved natural lighting. My wife and I enjoy Chinese food and consider this restaurant and PF Chang's the best in the area. Enjoy!!!
We took a large group on a weeknight. Although they had a small staff, the service was excellent, the food was excellent and the price was great! Happy to see them open again for indoor dining.
