Simply Blues - Havering

Simply Blues has closed and is currently undergoing renovations to reopen as an Italian restaurant named Onyx. The decision to add another Italian restaurant in Hornchurch is puzzling to me, but I assume they are confident in its profitability.

I went to this restaurant last night with a group of 5 friends. This place used to be lively, but when we arrived on a Saturday night, there were only three occupied tables, including ours. Our orders were taken, but apparently there were fewer staff working that evening - only one chef on duty, three other staff members, one of whom was friendly, while another was rude, and the bartender was a disaster. Our orders were mixed up, no one asked if we wanted more drinks after the first round, and the service staff walked past us multiple times without acknowledging us. Then, to top it off, a waitress dropped a plate of food on my friend after a two-hour wait. We had to flag down the bartender to request a drink, and eventually asked to cancel our main courses and just receive the bill. No one made any attempt to apologize for the terrible service we received. I strongly recommend avoiding this place at all costs. I had to give it one star in this review, although I really don't want to.

I have visited this restaurant a few times for family birthdays. The food is usually very good and the staff are friendly. It is recommended to make a reservation during busy times. However, there are only limited vegetarian options so I do not recommend it for vegetarians. The desserts are great though!

This place is one of the hidden gems in hornchurch! Absolute top notch from start to finish! Good food at good prices. Go on treat yourself you’ve earned it

Been coming here for 20 odd years, the food hasn’t changed much but that’s not a bad thing. We had the sharing starters and the mains were double dealer and a couple of fillet steaks. The fillet has always been very pricy for this place, BUT you pay for what you get with this main. I’ve had it many times over the years and it’s has always been cooked amazingly. Tonight was no different. The steak is a real good large piece as well and would fit in with any top restaurant in the area. Place wasn’t busy which seems the norm now days, so many places to eat at in Hornchurch that it does well to keep going. Service wasn’t the fastest, desert took an age to turn up for some reason. We all started wishing we had asked for the bill instead. Still it was lovely deserts when they did arrive.
