Dearest Lads and Lassies, we visited you on a cold night in June and the joint was jumping when we arrived. Wonderful bar staff did the right thing and let us know that the kitchen was under the pump and that we could enjoy some delicious drinks, inhale the atmosphere and our meals would be served in approximately an hour if we stayed. Thats what we did and we have marked the calendar as an event to remember for ALL the right reasons. First round of drinks was a Big Boy ? a delicious version of an old fashioned mixed by an alchemist and garnished with candied orange essential to nibble on this between sips to enjoy the whole experience . People watching ensued with all walks of life represented young families, grandma and granddads, hipsters, old farts us , etc. Just prior to food service we ordered another round The Last Word. The wizard behind the bar knocked our socks off. Our food was served and the group of teenagers seated adjacent stopped and stared our platter had a delicious serve of almost everything on the menu. Order this please. it was the bomb ribs were out of this world full of smoky sticky goodness, heavenly pulled pork, WTF buffalo wings so atomically sour and tangy our tastebuds were screaming for more , fries, the list goes on. Thanks for a great night out. I hereby declare The Winston a great wonder of the world.
This is the 4th time we have been to the Winston, and we love this place!!! We can’t stop coming back, it is our go to spot for a drink and a bite to eat. Everything here is great; the tunes, the drinks, the Mac and cheese sticks EVERYTHING!! Plus our baby boy is named Winston, so it’s an extra special place for us.
I 've been traveling (and eating) around the world since February, so I have a pretty good idea what quality and customer service at a restaurant looks like. And because I 'm a female and traveling solo, I 'm sometimes treated differently than couples or a group of diners would be. So take this in consideration when reading my review, as well. Hobart, Tasmania is one of my last stops before I head back home to the U. S. in December. I visited the first time in 2012. I arrived this time in early September and have been to The Winston to eat and drink five times already. I can tell you NOW, I 'll probably look like a local at The Winston by the time I leave, as I 'll certainly be returning often! I love the menu choices and can honestly say that each and every item I 've tried so far has been two thumbs up. Fresh, hot, better than described on the menu and generous portions. I 've read many of the reviews here and would like to address the negative feedback I 've read; as a customer not as a member of management or the staff. YES, the wait for food COULD be long. That 's why I arrive early enough to grab a table (or bar seat) and a drink until food can be ordered at 5:00. The kitchen is open for 4 1/2 hours and the chef is 'the bomb '. When I haven 't arrived before order time, I know there could be a wait or that some items could run out. That 's life folks. It 's not the end of the world. Hint: If you 're hungry, arrive early. As for the staff caring goes, I 've only had great experiences. No crazy looks when I dine and/or drink alone. I 'm not overlooked at the bar. Someone, (even the Owner), has checked to see if I need another drink or will take time to describe a particular ale on tap. It 's a busy establishment, but they still take time and effort to exhibit excellent customer service! This has been the longest review I 've ever written, but I was compelled to do so. I 'm thinking now though, that I shouldn 't have given you my 'tip ' for food service.
Simply the best place to eat in Tasmania. Great beer amazing food
