The Korean chicken was delicious and the steak was cooked to perfection. The staff were attentive and the atmosphere was lively, even on a Monday. I will definitely be returning.
I visited The Pheasant with my two sons (ages 11 and 8) while on a short trip in Cambridgeshire, based on a recommendation from a friend. We had an amazing meal at The Pheasant, and spent a peaceful hour reading on the couch in the bar beforehand. The pub is absolutely stunning! The atmosphere was friendly, the decor beautiful, the service top-notch, and the food was exceptional. We started with a few tapas dishes, followed by a magnificent turkey pie for myself and classic but well-done options for the kids. They were also very happy with their desserts. The wine list was great (unfortunately, I was driving) and our waitress provided impeccable service. I wish we lived closer so we could visit more often!
We stop here for Sunday lunch on our return from Thursford Christmas Show every other year. It never disappoints. Food is excellent and the staff are so friendly and helpful. We look forward to our next visit in December 2025, on our way back to Worcester.
We 're looking forward to trying the Pheasant again on a normal day. We went on Boxing Day and it was pretty disastrous. Meant to be a treat but it certainly wasn 't. Starters were nice, no cooking involved apart from the pesto. Then the mains. The beef was grey, not pink as I was told it would be but it was tender. The roast potatoes tasted a bit old but there were plenty. The Chantenay carrots were very soft. The Savoy cabbage was perfect but the portion was tiny. The gravy was nice but we got a different variety when we asked for more. The Yorkshire pudding was the main disaster; it seemed old, and very hard to the point of shattering. Desserts. The sticky toffee pudding was fine although the serving of sauce was very mean. The clotted cream with it is, in my opinion, the best way to serve this pudding, it 's a relief from all the sweetness. The apple crumble was terrible; it came in a bowl with the custard already in it with the pudding. The apple was sour and the crumble was squidgy stodge. The service was fine although some staff not yet fully professional. We would have expected a welcoming hello and goodbye but that didn 't happen. Our overall feeling was that there was serious penny pinching going on with the mains and desserts but this is a very bad idea when you are judged on your last meal but we do intend to try again because it 's such a wonderful building and we 've had many good experiences in The Pheasant, perhaps before the present owners, we 're not really sure.
We booked for Christmas lunch at The Pheasant this year mainly because of the high standard of previous meals eaten here since the new owners took over. We were certainly not disappointed ...this must have been the best festive lunch I have eaten (and there have been many). The five course menu was well thought out and well executed. From the delicious canapes to the Starters of which we each had something different..... Soup, pate and lobster all of which were delicious. We all had Turkey Crown and Christmas Pudding followed by coffee and warm mince pies. I must mention our main waiter, Theo.... who was very friendly and efficient and definately added to the experience. Steve and the team are doing a great job making The Pheasant a 'must go to ' venue.
