Fantastically creative 7 courses served by 2 young inventive chefs. $70 menu and $40 wine pairing is an unbelievable value if you live in any urban area. Warning--this is not the straightforward OpenTable res. You have to call Matteo at The Rose to reserve and right now it's only offered Weds nights. The Rose looks a bit like a sketchy bar if you are over 30 but he will take you to the back kitchen for a truly memorable meal.
The food is amazing in taste, creativity and fresh ingredients. We look forward to their changing menu and have never been disappointed.
Incredible meal. Had Chef Rene Stein's 4 course meal. Every bite was off the charts. Started with one of the best salad dressings I have ever tasted. Next came an light salmon dish. The entree was a goulash that was like no other I've ever tasted. My wife had the Idaho trout she loved it. We had to try 2 deserts, both were unique delicious. Great service provided by Mateo. What a great place. Was shocked people not waiting in line to get in.
This is a story of low (and sinking) expectations... It was a strange start. Our lateish dinner reservation at The Rose on a Saturday night saw us lining up at the door to get carded (so flattering) and searched with the other kids coming to see the band at the associated Pink Garter Theatre venue. The sound check was loud. The cocktail bar aka The Rose restaurant was standing room only. We were shown to a red banquette in the corner under a very dimly lit chandelier. Our guest leaned over to shout (over the sound check) this can 't be the right place.... but moments later, with the arrival of a stunning gazpacho sorbet amuse bouche, we were off on one of the most surprising meals of recent memory. Truly extraordinary. The menu is tiny and crafted daily so three of us were able to try pretty much everything. Each new arrival was greeted with wow this is stunning by our guest; when we hit the chocolate dessert words failed. We learned Chef Rene Stein is a one man show. He selects the ingredients. He makes the bread (and the butter). He is the only one in the kitchen. What an opportunity for a creative and imaginitive chef! A well selected wine list with some obscure gems. Service was respectful to the amazing food and, given the incongruous ambiance, we were highly entertained. Bravo to the team! Thank you Chef for a spectacular, imaginitive dinner. 10 stars out of 5. Extraordinary. Best of luck for continued success.
The Rose was a surprising find. The food was excellent and the cocktails were very inventive. Apparently, the chef is new and the Rose relaunched recently from being a cocktail spot to a place where the food is good. The menu is small but thoughtful, with an Austrian/German flair, and locally sourced. It's a small space and still a cocktail bar later in the evening.
