Avaliação da contribuiçãoNice getaway spot with great food. Standup comedy with St. Louis's Darius Bradford, with others on the stage was a great time!
Saturday visit right when the band kicked off. Visiting from out of town, really enjoyed this place. Live band played a great mix of old skool, 90s and early 2000s RnB music. Drinks were comparable for the price. Chicken and Fries were hot and fresh, very tasty. $10 cover at the door.
I am giving the 5 star rating for the environment. I have been to this establishment so many times that I can't count. Soul Sessions. 2 Step Wednesday. First Fridays... special events or parties! YOU NAME IT. It is a black owned business on 18th and Vine, so it has its occasional issues. However, overall I love it here. Fried Chicken is a must! Drinks are ALWAYS poured heavy. You can come listen to live music, locals on the mic, or a DJ! The vibe is always right in my opinion. The crowd definitely changes depending on the day of the week, so pay attention to that!
We had a ball with the locals. Good food and great music, everyone was friendly. A must visit again.
I really wanted to love this place, I had high hopes when I went with my friend for their Mardi Gras party. They had put it out on Facebook that they had this big Mardi Gras event planned, and apparently there was even supposed to be a parade. So we got there at the time it was posted to start and were shocked to see NOBODY in the place, no parade, no band, nothing. After being frisked at the door, we went inside and found a table with some beads so we grabbed a couple of those, thinking maybe we were just too early. We went to the bar and the bartender told us they had hurricanes as their special for $5 each, so we both got one. Now I don 't know if you 've ever had a real hurricane, but these were YELLOW. And there was practically no alcohol in them at all. Seriously, I had four of these and wasn 't even phased. After our first round, I guess the bartender figured out the problem and started adding Grenadine to the drinks. People started coming in about an hour later (never did see anything about a parade , and a DJ came up to the stage, so we were thinking this Mardi Gras party was about to get started. He played one song that would be considered New Orleans Jazz , then started playing nothing but slow jam R&B. There was only one couple that got up to dance, everyone else just sat around staring at each other. I mean, come on, read the room! If you 're the DJ for a party and nobody is dancing, change it up! But no....and the owner(? , bless her heart, kept trying to get more people up and moving, but with that music nobody was interested. We tried to order food but were pretty much ignored. I had really thought that if there was anyplace in all of KC that would have a good Mardi Gras party it would be in the jazz district, but I guess my expectations were too high. Nothing about this experience makes me want to go back.
