Tasty food across the courses and fine service throughout in a nice comfortable setting. Portions generally small though and very overpriced.

To call this restaurant terrible, would be an insult to other terrible restaurants. The Hound is worse than that, and I cannot recall the last time I woke up so infuriated, that the first thing I did was write a review for a restaurant. To start, we used the attached Hotel 's concierge to book us a dinner time at the restaurant. When we arrived 10 minutes early to check in, we were told our reservation was not found. I saw a room next to ours had the same time as ours, so thinking the concierge made a mistake, I went to go talk with him. To his credit, he showed me his computer with my correct room number and reservation for the restaurant at the time we asked. Okay, technology can have its drawbacks, no worries. Not the end of a night, the hostess stated she could seat us in about 10-15 minutes. We go into the attached bar to have a drink while we wait. It is a seat yourself bar, so we grabbed a high table and started to converse. We waited for 5 minutes (I say this because a soccer game was on, and we watched it from 22:00 to 27:05. We got a little frustrated, because the bar was not that full, more towards the empty side of the spectrum, and moved right up to the serving bar. After that we ordered our drinks, which were good to their credit, but not worth buying again. Halfway through our drinks we were able to get seated next to a large, loud group of 10 people, who the term inside voice must have escaped. I get people should have a great time, but when you are borderline constantly speaking at a volume in which no one else is able to have a conversation, I would have to say your manners escape you. After being seated next to the concert, we waited another 3-5 minutes to get our second drink order put in, along with an appetizer. After we ordered our meals, and another 3-5 minutes, they were nice enough to bring us the tables starting bread out, that should be served when you are first seated. Once again, the restaurant was somewhat busy, but not close to being full. For drinks, my wife asked for a glass of wine to be brought with dinner, because we still were still enjoying our drinks from the bar. They ignored this and brought the glass of wine out immediately, even before the appetizer was served, which was the only thing that was brought out quickly. Kindly enough, the staff, baffled by this, brought the drink back to the kitchen. Mind you the table is very small, and there wasn 't enough room for another glass, Out of more frustration of not being able to converse with my wife, she asked the hostess to move us to a quieter part of the restaurant, which she obliged. As we moved, we realized that there were so many more options where they could have seated. Why would you seat a couple next to a large group if other spots are open? Not just one spot but over several. We were seated out on the terrace, which was much quieter than the main dining hall and away from loud, rambunctious groups of over intoxicated individuals waiting to ruin someone 's night. We were able to talk and hear each other, and since it was our honeymoon, some people consider that a pretty big damn deal. The hostess did apologize for the loud customers after seating us and said our meals would be served shortly. Our main meals came out, my wife having the 7oz Filet, cooked to rare, which to the kitchen 's credit, was cooked perfectly. I must state that. However, I had ordered the 10oz Ribeye, cooked medium, came out more like medium plus, to a medium-well in some parts of the steak. Still wanting to see how it tasted, I took a bite. I thought I had ordered a dry aged steak, since it tasted dry like it had been sitting out under a heat lamp too long. It may have been the manager that came over and asked how our food was, we explained the prior incidents, which his only reply was Yes, I heard . That 's it, everything was just dismissed. I asked him if the steaks were dry aged, which he replied that they were not, and asked if there was problem. I said my steak tasted dry, and the sauce tasted like I was licking the pepper shaker. He took my steak back, confirming my steaks cooking choice of medium. Trying our best not to be Karen like customers, we kept conversing about the best parts of our trip. And this is where I will compare the Muckross ' hotel restaurants to the Hound. I will not ever eat at The Hound again, both the Yew Tree and Colgan 's Gastro Pub put The Hound to shame in every aspect of service. We had stayed at the Muckross Hotel a couple days prior and had much better experience every time we ate. My second steak came out, which tasted and looked how a medium cooked steak should come out the first time, along with the Jameson steak sauce not being overpowered with black pepper. However, we were never asked if we wanted any more wine, or drinks with our dinner. Apparently, the time of ordering drinks was over, and the time of being stuck with whatever we had left was at hand. There must have been a few blind servers, because after trying to flag down 3 servers, only one server came back several minutes later to see if we wanted dessert. At the end of the night, it took another 10-15 minutes to get a server to come over to get us our bill. What I am going to say is going to come off expectant: Our bill had all of our items listed on it at full price. Nothing was given as an apology for lack of good service nor any type of acknowledgement that the night did not go well. This might be an American standard, when you tell the manager that there are issues, the manager will use their best judgement to make you want to come back to the restaurant. They will either take off a portion of your bill off, or comp whatever was not done right the first time. To be frank, we were both so insulted that they felt our experience was worthy of a full price menu, and at 70 euro a head, I fully disagree with that statement. We paid, figuring the manger was either incompetent or didn 't care about or experience, and that it was no longer worth our time asking for anything else. We paid the waiter, and they were baffled that with a 170 euro bill, we did not tip, which the server checked at the table multiple times, as if we were supposed to have had the best meal and night out of our entire lives. To be blunt, screw this place. You have ruined our night, and as I write this the morning after, I am still heated about the fast-food style service of trying to feed you then shove you out the door.
