Avaliação da contribuiçãoConsistently good in all of our previous 4 visits and this past weekend was no exception. Our favourite restaurant used to be Saffron in Kingston but this place has taken over and now mops the floor with all other restaurants in Canberra. The service has always been great also. Anything on the menu will be good.
Pomegranate had been on my 'to try' list for a while so I was pretty excited when one of my friends announced she was having her birthday dinner here! Finally a reason I HAVE to go! Pomegranate is a modern, stylish restaurant with a la carte dining. There's also a banquet option and for a reasonable price of $60 (I think) it's great value! The food was presented beautifully, tasted delicious and the service was great too. My dessert was to die for and sent me straight to chocolate heaven! I love duck and the confit duck was really good. I could eat both of those dishes every day.... A good option if you want a nice dinner for a special occasion. eatcanberra.com.au
Eating here is a bit like meeting an old friend who's had a makeover - so much good that's blindingly obvious. Of the many incarnations this restaurant has had, Pomegranate is by far the best. Great wagyu beef, excellent wine list and a sublime confit style salmon that has me counting the days until I can reasonably return and order it again. A bit like the next time I'll see that made over friend and again, be delighted by the changes.
So we finally tried Pomegranate located amongst some of the best cafes and restaurants in Kingston. First impression, we were pleasantly greeted and promptly seated by the maitre 'd herself. After about 10 minutes, she took our order and to make sure she had not missed anything, she repeated the order to us. We concurred and she left to put the order in. Things were fine until about 10 minutes into our mains, we were still without the potato salad. We also noticed that she stopped occasionally topping up or wine glasses. Three times I tried to get her attention, both of us seeing eye to eye and three times she just ignored me. I finally got the attention of another staff (South Asian looking man) and asked him what happened our potato side so then quickly dashed to the kitchen to check our ticket. He came back after about 8 minutes to inform us that for some reason the side was never put in in the first place. Of course, at this stage, or mains plates were almost empty. When we finally received the potatoe, they were piping hot but not fully cooked. We brought this up with the south Asian looking staff but not an apology was offered. From this point on, the maitre 'd never came even near our table and we weren't even offered coffee or dessert after the meal. Even when we were settling the bill, the maitre 'd didn't even look at us let alone offer an explanation or apology for the sub par service. Needless to say, that was our first and last visit at Pomegranate.
