We can't recommend the beautiful, well-run place enough. Our room was huge and overlooked the main drag. It had so many historic appointments and such character while also having a modern, well-outfitted bathroom. The lamb I had one evening for dinner was succulent and perfectly prepared. Our hostess, Kerstin, was friendly and attentive. She even packed us a lunch for the train the day we left. The stay was a highlight of our 2-weeks in Germany. And lovely Meiningen is well worth a look.
Had dinner with two work colleagues. Service was good and friendly and the black beer most welcome after a day travelling! English menus provided for those whose German isn't up to scratch (mine! Dinner was exactly what I expected for this region including the Thuringer potato dumplings and it was all very enjoyable. Finished off with dessert and some apple and pear schnapps!
My husband and I had dinner here earlier tonight. Service was average, didnt have to wait long for our food. We ordered one entree with the goose breast with dumplings/baby brussels sprouts and the other entree was pork schnitzel with french fries. The goose breast meat was not much taste but like the crispy skin. We liked the shoestring french fries better than the schnitzel, pork was dry n tough.
We stopped at the Henneberger Haus for an evening snack and two glasses of wine. Food prices were relatively high, but the dishes were unfortunately quite mediocre: we had fried camamber slices with some salad, an unexciting dish, and a blueberry crepe, which tasted almost industrial. Both were not cheap and so quite disappointing. We also had a glass of chianti and a glass of bordeaux wine, both were okay.
Food is top of the marks. Composed of tipical German cuisine wonderfully cooked. Deserts are quite good as well. For an after-meal, a wonderful sortment of schnapss closes event with style. All of this in a wonderful and cosy, old enviroment.
