Le Quattro Fontane - Messina

A wonderful place to sit and watch Italian life go by in Messina. This little cafe was one of my favorite places to sit and enjoy an espresso macchiato. the food is basic but pretty good and the WIFI here is good too. The lady who runs the place was super friendly and sad to see us leave.

Not a pleasant experience. I went for the frittura di pesce which came back as octopus, squid and whitebait with lime quarters to squeeze over them. The whitebait was like standard frozen Baltic Sea whitebait. The octopus and squid was extremely chewy, no indication of being fresh and for 12 Euro the ingredients probably cost less than 1 Euro. 2 tiny squid rings, 3 bits of octopus and a handful of whitebait and other than the texture all had the same flavour.
