Avaliação da contribuiçãoHeard a lot of good comments, so went for an overnight stay. Our allocated room, (The Happy Heron was tastefully decorated and warm. (Really appreciated after a rather wet and dismal journey! The bathroom is well appointed, but there was a layer of dust on the cross-piece on the rear of the bathroom door, and the bath seemed to have a powdery coating. Comfortable bed and quality bedding. Tea/coffee/ chocolate and a coffee machine, which unfortunately had no instructions on how to use. And so to dinner. My wife ordered the chicken breast and I the hake and chips. My wife's meal was really good but alas, my hake was small, chewy and covered in a batter that disintegrated as soon as you put a knife to it, sending shrapnel over the table. My wife's dessert of an individual apple pie was baked so hard, she had to have a knife as well as her spoon to break into it! My sticky toffee pudding was good. The staff, especially Alison, were really helpful, and Stuart quickly dealt with our departure in the morning. For the money, not really good value, having stayed at various hotels that offer better value.
Birthday celebration for wife and daughter. Wife’s Hake was tough and hard, my 28 day aged steak was quite tough and rubbery and the Hasselback potato was dry and difficult to eat. This establishment is meant to be top table stuff, my daughter said she’d have rather gone to the Harvester. To be clear, we had just two glasses of wine; one each for my wife and I, so the bulk of costs were on the food. In fairness we did not complain at the time as both of our children would have found it very uncomfortable and spoiled the evening having a replacement would have taken time and interfered with an important family milestone Why on earth is so difficult to get this relatively straight forward order wrong I expect the steak to be well sourced, where they got this cut of beef I’ve no idea. Not at all worth well over £200 for the four of us.
Have stayed at this boutique hotel for last 7 years with our friends for annual Christmas break except for 2 year break with covid when hotel was closed This annual Christmas visit for weekend with friends was lovely but restaurant disappointing with limited menu choice Menu so limited not worthy of 5 stars restaurant more 3/4 star No cooked breakfast first time in all our visits only continental available!!! No chef on to cook it Rooms very nice warm and welcoming. Very clean coffee/tea in room We sadly wont be booking this hotel again which is disappointing ! there were just to many corners cut to save money Daniel our waiter was exceptionally helpful
From my first visit I was not so sure to come with the family because I was the only herbivore and hoped they had options. to my surprise they asked the cook to make some of their vegetarian dishes vegan that were delicious. they even advise on my next visit to inform in an advanced booking to clarify all vegans coming. what worked in the sequence, as she gave me a meal that is not on her menu, and much better than my first visit! love to revise, but really wish her vegan decisions, although the other restaurants of celtic manor have added new ones.
When we made a reservation for lunch at the Newbridge Inn, we had high expectations. The service was satisfactory, but we were let down by the main course. The starters, onion soup and whitebait, were enjoyable. However, my wife's glazed duck breast was not presented well, with two pieces of duck placed haphazardly on the plate alongside a small patty of roast beetroot and black pudding. The side of vegetables included a large amount of kale and the duck was undercooked and unappetizing in appearance. The duet of Welsh lamb I ordered included two pieces, one cooked properly and one undercooked. I was disappointed to find out that vegetables were not included with the lamb dish, and the option to purchase additional sides seemed overpriced. The desserts were average. The white wine we selected was the cheapest option on the list, but still expensive. Unfortunately, we did not feel comfortable complaining about the food and decided not to send anything back. Overall, our experience at the Newbridge Inn was disappointing considering its reputation.
