They were served hot from the frit and dipped in plenty of cinnamon and sugar. That was a real treat! My husband ordered the farmers breakfast eggs, bacon, potatoes and roasts with one side of apple butter. He said that the roasted potatoes were some of the best he ever had!!! He orders them everywhere and makes them home. I had the hearty French toast. The salad he was served with was fabulous. The restaurant itself looks like a quirky coffee shop, although it is a full service restaurant. Parts of the building remind me of a real old barn, although it is part of the historic city center. The bathrooms are worn and quirky ex. Separate hot and cold fittings . There is so much about this place that ends immediately. We really enjoyed our efficient but friendly server Tara. I can't believe we waited so long to visit. We'll be back soon!
Cow and Quince... in downtown New Glarus and you may not know it exists even walking by with its non-descript store front. But don't be fooled, it is worth a stop and for its new, fresh take on some old standbys, such as the Toad in a Hole! I would highly, highly recommend the Truffle Shuffle. A made your way (I had sunny side up) two egg smothered in shitake mushrooms, with a wonderfully light summer salad, two pieces of smoked bacon with parmesan and delicious toast. I also highly recommend the Savory French Toast! A really, really thick piece of french toast with a lightly sauted kale in a ceamy white sauce with a delicious pork belly slab! Oh so yummy! Definitely a hidden gem in New Glarus!
The food was amazing and the people were very nice. Lots and lots of local food and homemade choices. Maybe my new favorite restaurant.
Cow Quince was fantastic! They showed a very interesting and very tasty brunch special French toast that worked so well. The BLT was for dying, combining Madison Sourdough bread and all kinds of local ingredients. To complete it, our server was so friendly and accommodating for our group of eight. I recommend spending your time and money at Cow Quince.
If you enjoy Farm to Table food and are close to New Glarus Wisconsin, this is the place to go. The most important ingredients come from a 40-mile radius of New Glarus. Between the 3 of us we enjoyed perfectly seasoned and portioned bisquits and gravy and 3 cheeses and onion grilled sandwiches served with fresh cherries and yogurt. They have their own blends of teas and coffee, of which I had later. Talk about a large cup of coffee, fat and not bitter in the least bit. When the check came, it was surprisingly affordable compared to a normal restaraunt. The ladies were so friendly. Our new favorite in New Glarus!
