Cantina Rooftop - New York

I’m not sure why this place has such a low rating, because I literally had the BEST time there last Friday with my friends. We couldn’t really hear each other when we were talking because the music and venue was so loud but we were having such a great time. The drinks and service was great. We even had a birthday dessert for our friend which was so cute and yummy. We took home some photos they took of us, and loved seeing everyone dance on the dance floor.

I write this review in my most humble way. While my friends and I were excited about meeting up at this popular rooftop, the evening ended for us in an epic fail. On our part, we arrived over 1 hour late because the traffic on a Friday from New Jersey to New York City was INSANE. However, once we arrived, street parking was easy to locate. The Hostess still seated us even though we were late. Our seated location was not the best but you can’t win them all— as we were late. The venue decor was fun festive; however, our server was NOT attentive. I am assuming that since we were seated on the rooftop (but in the cut), our waiter ALWAYS forgot about us. He failed to place our order correctly— as we ordered our appetizers and meal simultaneously. Instead of admitting his mistake, he debated back and forth with us on whether we placed the order. Go figure. Then to top the night off, there was a hair in my friend’s drink. When we asked for the manager, we could see from afar that our waiter was quickly telling his side of the story so when the manager arrived over to us, he acted as if we were difficult customers. From the perspective of a top Publicist, the right thing to do was to zero out the bill but instead he offered us Tequilla shots. I declined. To top it off, the gratuity was purposely added to our party of four (4). I don’t know if this was an isolated situation, but we arrived happy and excited but left feeling violated and very unsatisfied.

The four of us had appetizers for dinner. The guacamole was delicious. I 've never had better (chicken) quesadillas or nachos! The margaritas were pricey but had a kick...well worth it. We had two each. Our server Carolina was wonderful. Other service was very attentive. A DJ played rhythmic music creating an upbeat atmosphere. All in all everyone was having a fun time. We were told at the door that we had to have a reservation...so we made one and were in 10 minutes later. This was a Wednesday around 7pm. I would go back in a New York minute ! Highly recommend!

Great party atmosphere! Definitely not a place you go to if you're trying to have a semi quiet meal. The DJ was great and kept the vibes going. The nachos and tacos we ordered were really good and so were the drinks we ordered in the sugar skull. Our server was very helpful and nice. We will definitely be back when it's warm out.

Dj was great, mixed up the music well, food was good but portions were small. Get the pitchers as you get more bang for your buck if drinking. Avoid the professional photos if you don't want to pay tourist prices. You pay for the views and venue of course. I didn't order tacos due to the reviews. Overall, I had a great time.
