I really hope that they will have the promotional bacon packaged garnel. the taste and the texture of these lump and juicy garnel they made the best bacon-wrapped garnel I ever had. I also love that they get 3 side dishes perfectly portioned. cold drinks served in maurers also complement the perfect southern flair.
This was my first time back since the remodeling. It looks great! They were doing steady business on a Monday for lunch. There were diners waiting to take our table when our group of 5 left. I tried the honey and heat fried chicken with cabbage, pinto beans, and green beans. Although this fried chicken has heat in the name, the honey part was more prominent. You may want to add some hot sauce if you want more heat. My favorite part about the chicken was how crispy the skin was every bit as good as what you can find at The Drum Room. All of my sides were well seasoned. The cabbage was just a bit beyond tender just how I like it. The pinto beans tasted close to baked beans, as if they 've got a hint of sugar in them. The green beans were closer to mushy than tender but still delicious. Finally, my cornbread muffin was just what I want out of cornbread not sweet and soft as a pillow. My 4 dining companions enjoyed their meals. It was the first visit for each of them. They all pledged to return.
We arrived at 2:00 pm. Unfortunately they were out of alot of things on the menu including desserts. Our waitress explained to us that during their lunch they sell out of alot of their entrees and sides. The smothered chicken, mashed potatoes with brown gravy, macaroni and cheese, collard greens and corn muffins, was very good. We will go again but I want to get there at the beginning of lunch for sure. Service was very good.
I wanted to like this place. First off the cornbread is the best I've ever eaten. The sides were very good. My problem was that my $16 dinner had a third of a piece of thigh and the breast bone of the chicken with very little meat on that bone. The dinner was advertised with 2 pieces of chicken and I barely got enough for 1 whole piece. Pretty disappointing. The service was good and we had a very nice waiter. When asked about the small pieces of chicken he replied that their provider cut up the chicken before they made it to the restaurant. I don't know. First time I experienced this.
Went here after hearing about the awards Florence has received and seeing her restaurant on DD&D. Being from North Carolina, I wanted a taste of home. I had the fried chicken with pinto beans and collard greens. While the taste was very good, the chicken pieces (thigh and wing) were rather small. Still, they were cooked just right: juicy with a very crispy skin. The collards were great and the beans were a touch bland, but I'm a salt-o-holic anyways. I will likely return to try some of the other fare.
