Avaliação da contribuiçãoVisiting Back Home from Dallas; the service and food exceeded my expectations; and being my first visit to Raymond 's ; my palate was pleased. I have made many attempts over the years to secure an uneventful reservation at Raymond 's ; though due to weather it...had been unsuccessful; until the end of this decade; it was finally a success; and came to fruition. We ventured; and did the 3 course; pork belly was above and beyond my anticipation; melted in my mouth; prior to this; sample the half cheese and meat board prior to the course; this captivated and complimented the three course; soulfully satiating. The previous year we enjoyed Raymond 's sister restaurant The Merchant and loved the dishes. Well Done We will be back to embrace; enjoy; and celebrate your menu. Furthermore; our Hostess was graceful and knowledgeable of our menu; very impressed.

We flew directly from Quebec City especially to live the Raymonds experience with a friend. We are huge fans of Top Chef Canada and we had a crush for Ross Larkin, winner of the 2018 edition. Our first contact with his food was at FoodCamp...in Québec in March of this year. We did look at the Opentable reviews only when we arrived in St. John 's. Some comments were to the effect that it was too pricey and the service not on par with what you could find at other high end restaurants. Other comments were very positive so we decide to go with a very open mind and give Ross, Celeste and the staff a chance to impress us... We were right!!! First, the ambiance is cosy but still chic! The building is gorgeous and very well maintained from both the inside out. It sets the table very well for a gastronomic feast. We selected the 5 course menu along with wine pairing. The house offered us a mise en bouche and then followed the 5 course meal. Each course had its own and unique set of flavours and textures. Nothing was blend… The wine pairing was one of a kind(We were lucky enough to have been there the night after they had a wine selection event so we had access to incredible wines that we should not have had access to. The service offered by Adam was also perfect. He made us feel welcome and took very good care of us. Of course those restaurants are pricey!! What do you expect from a restaurant where the chef was elected Top Chef Canada!!!
Raymond's is a must while in St. John's. A little pricey, but worth every penny once you taste the food and wine parings. I had no idea such flavours existed in food. They were able to accommodate my dietary restrictions without compromising the quality and...taste. Thank you to the amazing chefs and staff for making this a very memorable food experience.
Well... it wasn’t a terrible meal. The restaurant replaced both our main entrees when my husband found a tiny worm crawling on his garnish. My husband wasn’t thrilled from the moment he was called ma’am by the hostess when we entered. He doesn’t look like...a woman, but I suspect the hostess wasn’t paying attention or was having a bad day. Anyways, I loved the atmosphere old school fine dining. The first course showcasing three parts of a cod (cheek, tongue, filet) was perfect for Newfoundland and surprisingly tasty, and beautifully served. This course was followed by another I liked, but our meal was a couple months ago, and I forgot what it was. Then the entree with the “guest” it had been a steak. Kate a couple bites of the steak prior to my husband’s discovery, and it was very tough. I was happy when the restaurant offered to replace both our entrees. We were given the halibut instead, and it was good. It was garnished with some of those same leaves that had a worm on them, and I noticed my husband pushed all the leaves to the side. I ate mine. All clear. Our final course was dessert, and I don’t remember what it was either other than it wasn’t sweet which isn’t a bad thing but it also wasn’t anything I wanted to finish eating. We both ate about half of whatever it was, and that was that. I should mention, the restaurant also gave us each a free drink because of the insect issue. That was all they did. Our bill, converted to dollars, was about $350. Two tasting menus and one half of a wine flight, plus two free drinks. Final verdict= it just wasn’t worth it. The food wasn’t good enough to justify the price.
