Barry Hadfield Nikau Reserve

A steep track with good stairs. A lot of beautiful Nikau palms and a view of Kāpiti island from the top.

It's a bit of trek to the lookout but the views are worth it. Make sure to take water if it's a hot day

Just had my second visit in April 2023. The density of the Nikau forest was incredible. The Kohekohe were just started to bloom. Such strange trees with flower stalks sticking right out of the trunk.

Beautiful walk under the canopy of so many Nikau trees! There are two tracks up to the top from the car park one starts on the left and one is in the middle, the latter is better as it has wooden steps whereas the other track is over uneven ground and tree roots. It’s a short but steep walk to the top with a good view. Love this track!

Awesome views, great walk totally recommend. First portion is hard but once you reach the top easy to medium difficulty.
