Great place with the most excellent coffee and best breakfast burrito. So delicious. When we visit Powell River we always make sure to stop by just for that.Overall nice and comfy atmosphere, friendly and welcoming staff, great pastries and a lot of vegetarian and vegan choices on the menu something worth emphasising as it can be a challenge to find great vegetarian options elsewhere in town.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Powell River and stumbled upon a hidden gem that I just had to share my experience about. As someone who follows a gluten-free and dairy-free diet, finding accommodating restaurants can be quite a challenge. However, I was pleasantly surprised to discover a place that not only catered to my dietary needs but exceeded my expectations in every way possible.Upon entering the restaurant, I was immediately greeted by one of the owners, who happened to be one of the friendliest individuals I have ever encountered. He explained he has the same dietary restrictions so they try to go above and beyond in this area. To my delight, he even offered me a complimentary muffin, which was absolutely delicious and made me feel incredibly welcomed.Not only did the owner provide exceptional service, but he also shared valuable recommendations for other gluten-free restaurants in the area. This level of thoughtfulness and genuine care truly made me feel like a valued customer.Now, let's talk about the food. Oh my goodness, it was outstanding! The menu had a wide variety of gluten-free and dairy-free options, making it a paradise for someone like me. Each dish was expertly prepared, bursting with flavors, and beautifully presented. It was evident that the chefs put a lot of love and attention into every plate they served.Aside from the incredible food, the atmosphere of the restaurant was simply delightful. The funky and cute decor created a warm and inviting ambiance that made me feel right at home. It was the perfect place to relax, enjoy a meal, and soak in the unique charm of Powell River.If you find yourself in Powell River, do yourself a favor and pay them a visit. Wow, I was blown away by their drink selection, their friendly service, and the quality of the coffee/speciality drinks. Their pastries were also so delicious! Great atmosphere and quick service!

I am a Powell River resident (senior and arranged to meet 2 friends visiting Powell River from Penticton. River City Coffee was a logical choice based on location and ease of parking. We ordered 3 coffees and 3 carrot cakes and my friends treated me. (I found out later that the cost came to nearly $40 CAD but that is not the issue. Upon taking our first bites of the cake it was obvious the icing was super sweet and the cake seemed dry to me. When my friend went to get a coffee refill she mentioned to the barista on duty (who had been perfectly charming to deal with, by the way about the sweet icing. A woman also behind the counter came around and approached my friend, demanding to know if she had bought groceries lately and pointing out that the cakes were labelled gluten/dairy free and asking my friend if she lived here. My friend came back to the table stunned and the mood at the table was instantly transformed. I remained when they left and as I tried to explain how disappointed and embarrassed I was by the whole thing this woman wouldn 't give an inch, claiming my friend had been rude and that we had ordered the most expensive things. (Not sure what that had to do with anything. She offered me a gift card, which I declined, as I have no intention of going back. Perhaps I am old-fashioned but what happened to the customer is always right ? All this lady had to do was thank my friend for her comment about the icing and perhaps offer her a free coffee refill. My friend was NOT looking for any recompense...she had never asked to speak to the manager in the first place. Powell River should be welcoming tourists after the COVID years, not putting them off with such rude behaviour. My friend wrote a review on Facebook and the reply was equally rude, accompanied by the comment that she was not welcome in River City Coffee any more. Small chance of that!

A local favorite. The staff are so engaging and warm, the coffee is amazing and their food is just as good too. Relax outside in the sun or find a cozy corner inside. Thank you for treating me so well every time I'm there!
