Avaliação da contribuiçãoBizzar experience. Been come to pv Club Regina for 30 years. Never tried the local place opposite the resort. We were tired and decided to finally give it a shot. At first, the food was very good. Service was prompt. The coconut yarns and shrimps... tacos were great. The flan was one of the best I ever had. The menu prices looked typical. I never thought to ask the price for the coconut shrimp and Margarita Combo Special of the night. My mistake. Next, the bill, as others have said, was marked. When I confronted the server, he said it was tax. I asked him what the tax is. He said 20%. Numbers have not yet been added. Two coconut shrimps, one shrimp taco dish (3), four drinks and two flan came 120 dollars, including lace. The server was obviously uncomfortable. So I didn't want to punish him. This is average for pv restaurants. Since the restaurant really makes good food out, why would the owner jeopardize his business.
We’ve had breakfast here at least a dozen times over the last two years. The food is okay and the service spotty. We kept returning as we like to support small business. We were warned to check our bill as there was often a mistake...to be found(always in their favor. . We found this to be the case several times last year and they would correct the bill when we pointed it out. Today however the 50 peso overcharged on a 600 peso bill was supposedly “for services”. We told them no as it was not disclosed nor had they charged it two days ago. We did not pay it and won’t be returning. We also noted the omelettes are now two eggs not three. Better breakfasts and value at Mr. Cream and at our hotel.
This is without a doubt one of the best authentic Mexican restaurants in Puerto Vallarta. If you are looking for really good, down-home Mexican food, this is where you have to go. We have been here many times, and have never been disappointed. The food...is delicious, the portions are more than sufficient, the service is amazing and personable, and the price cannot be beat. There is nothing stuffy or pretentious about El Callejon, just an all-round wonderful experience.
A mixed bag over a few visits... Our first dinner was decent, nothing spectacular, but edible and close to our resort. The second visit, the food was Blande and the steak on the woman's Hhuaracha was as hard as leather. Also we had seen... a review that recommended checking the bill, and safe enough, they had added 80 pesos to the total.
Food wasn't great, but they cheated on the bill. My husband's seafood soup was $240 pesos on the menu, but $340 on our bill. My fish grill was $410 Pesos on the menu, but $495 on our bill, etc. In addition...that they have 5% for paying with a credit card, plus another $100 in addition, which it claims to have another service fee. Stay away from them!
