My visit to The Chequers was a delightful experience. After Nick and Jo took over last year, the Sunday lunch was simply fantastic. The staff was excellent, the venue superb, and our group of cyclists and hikers felt warmly welcomed and well taken care of. This time, a smaller group of four enjoyed another delicious Sunday lunch without disappointment. The friendly and helpful team at The Chequers was responsive without being intrusive, making it possibly the best Sunday lunch I've had in ages. To top it off, the landlord himself took the time to offer second helpings of Yorkshire Puddings and gravy. It was truly a wonderful experience, and I am already looking forward to my next visit. Though it is a 50-minute drive for us, it is absolutely worth it. Thank you to Nick, Jo, and the entire team at The Chequers.
This was our second visit to this lovely pub and once again it did not disappoint. We had the roast beef and it was divine. Service was also first class and the staff are clearly well trained seem to enjoy their jobs. Overall I can’t recommend this place highly enough.
This was our first time dining at The Chequers and we will definitely return. The food was amazing and the staff was friendly and helpful. We are excited for our next visit.
I've always liked this pub. I've been coming here on and off for 50 years. During its 21st century evolution into a food pub it inevitably has lost its lovely olde worlde pub in the country feel, but I like the way the pub surrounds the bar and is divided into loose sections that give a sense of seclusion. This means the pub is particularly useful for those of us whose hearing has declined. The food is pretty standard pub grub and is okay and no better. The scampi was overcooked; the cabbage was a bit crunchy (much better than mushy though). Service was friendly but a bit lethargic. I wouldn't pisitively recommend the place but, to be honest, I'll probably go again: a fifty year habit even an occasional one is hard to break.
