Avaliação da contribuiçãoExcellent food, limited selection but everything was fantastic! I'll be back, soon! The quality was much higher grade than I usually find in Ontario. A shame the hours are short, dinner here would be fantastic.
Terrific space. Bright, airy, rustic and with tons of potential for a proper Bistro. See, as it is, the Bonnechere Bakery and Bistro (BB&B for short) is really not a proper Bistro with its limited 11-4 hours, offering essentially not much more than soups, sandwiches and salads with no wine or beer on offer. I’d call this a really good Tea Room but definitely not a Bistro. Mind you, the food and service where excellent. Tasty soups and top notch sandwiches on terrific bread (I liked the bread so much I bought a loaf … not cheap at $5.35 but well worth it). The ladies looking after us where fast, efficient and most pleasant. Nice to see.Renfrew’s restaurant scene is anemic and seriously behind other towns in the area (think Almonte, Carleton Place - even Arnprior now). It’s dying for a proper Bistro/Cafe-like place that’s open for lunch and dinner with good wines and craft beer with a good selection of satisfying Bistro fare. I don’t know the owners’ plan for the “BB&B” but I think they’d do really well expanding to make this a true Bistro. I’m convinced Renfrew can, and would, support it.
The place is very spacious. The tables are very separate. It is, at the same time, a food store, an object store for the kitchen and a restaurant. The toilets are immaculate. It seemed to me that I knew all my life the ladies who attended the place (I had never seen them, I live several thousand kilometers). Everything is familiar: the deal, the food, the place.Good for them.
Perfect for a leisurely lunch. Drawback-no reservations. Varied home cooked menu plus gluten free options.
I needed to kill a day in Renfrew last week and was looking for a place where I could enjoy some delicious food all day and work in a corner. After reading reviews I decided I had to check out Bonnechere Bakery. It was so cute and had a really great vibe - very cozy and comfortable and the food was amazing. The tomato soup will change your life. My only complaint was that the server was just plain rude. I'm not sure if the other reviews about people working from their laptops were exaggerated, but I did call ahead to make sure it was okay so I don't think it was unusual that I asked to work while I had lunch. The waitress was not having any of it though - she grudgingly said it was okay unless they got busy. I said that was no problem and I was going to have food anyway, not just buy a coffee and sit there, so I totally understood. She gave my a super dirty look, then took my order, dropped off my food, and NEVER came back. I was there for almost 3 hours and she never once came by again. I had to hail someone else for more food later on (who was MUCH more friendly). When my waitress rang me out as I was leaving I tried again to charm her and said "It was delicious!" and she said "Sure." LOL. I was originally going to spend the afternoon there (and have a few meals haha) but she made me feel so unwelcome I basically finished lunch and dessert and went and worked from Tim Hortons. Not as comfortable but they didn't make me feel like a dirtbag. I assumed she was having a bad day, but a couple days later on my way back through Renfrew I stopped in with a friend who was gluten free because I knew they had a better selection than Tim Hortons and had the misfortune to get the same rude waitress, who didn't seem to remember me, but definitely remembered her **** attitude. She was really rude to my friend and I when we asked about sandwiches, saying that it would be at least an hour because they'd have to slice the meat (???) so we opted for something under the glass counter. When I asked about the lemon squares she said they were gluten free. "Oh I'm not worried about gluten free" I laughed - "Well that's what you'd get" she said. WTF! We were originally going to have tea and enjoy a mid-morning breakfast there but we both just wanted to gtf away from her so we ended up taking our lemon square and egg salad sandwich on (extremely delicious) gluten-free bread and got tea at Tim Hortons. Still, if you had to the luck to get a better server, everything else about this place is amazing. The decor is so pretty, and it has a great selection of kitchen items that would make great gifts as well. And the food was off the charts.
