Casal De Arman - Ribadavia

We discovered this fabulous restaurant while staying at the Pazo de Esponsende for our anniversary in November, it was only 10 minutes away and the owner of the Pazo kindly drove us there. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful and cosy, housed in an 18th century building and surrounded by gardens and vineyards and the waiters and Maitre Di were a delight. Sometimes when I go to Michelin or Repsol recommended restaurants the service is always a bit stuffy and formal and I find it quite awkward, here it was very relaxed and happy and we had a good laugh with the staff. The food was delicious. Nothing was too much trouble and when we mentioned we would be sharing all our plates they offered to split each dish onto separate plates, which were beautifully presented and still rather generous portions. When we couldn’t decide on a bottle of red or white wine to accompany our meal the Maitre De recommended that we have a glass of local Ribeiro with our starters and then a red with the other dishes, good decision. The stars of the show were the Duck egg with Truffles, the roasted baby pig leg with apple sauce and the Deer with chestnut cream and a small jug of coffee sauce, I’m still salivating at the memories. Desserts were yummy and followed by local Gallego liqueres. The whole experience was wonderful and made our anniversary very special and the total of 108 euros seems like a bargain to me. Considering you pay around 60 euros for a lunch in a normal restaurant in Santiago these days this was on another level. We will definitely be back. Thanks to all the team.

You are probably not going to find this restaurant unless someone tells you about it or has suggesting visiting the bodega Casal de Arman, It was very quiet when we arrived just one other couple who, it turned out, leave part of the year 15 minutes away from us but came down this place from north of Santiago de Compostela just for lunch. To travel that distance, you know it has to be good. It soon go crowded one other couple (Spanish and local) arrived. The one waiter had no trouble handling all three tables with the usual Spanish aplomb. The meal started with great bread and a bottle of Casal de Arman, one of its superb Ribeiro whites. I had a seared tuna with tomato salad and a scoop of gazpacho sorbet terrific followed by a very fine bacalao. My wife had pulpo (octopus) followed by a shoulder of lamb. Beautiful cooking all around in a lovely setting. We picked up four bottles of wine on the way out. A double win.

Our wine group had a three course lunch at Sabrego. A very smart setting, we ate in one of the dining rooms. On a very hot day it was initially a welcome relief but after a while it did get rather cold. We had a three course meal with very good tapas starters, the main course for most was a veal dish which not many liked too many bits of offal in it. There was fish on offer for non meat eaters which seemed to be rather better. The deserts were also quite nice, pastry dish with cream. We drunk six bottles of their local wine (too many) which seemed to keep coming when not strictly necessary. Service we thought was a little aloof.

Solo podemos hablar de la terraza, donde nos tomamos el vino de la casa, muy rico y disfrutando unas buenas vistas. La terraza es muy bonita, y disfrutas de un buen paisaje, con un precioso atardecer entre las viñas. El encargado muy amable y chistoso. Nos quedamos con las ganas de alojarnos allí, pero lo dejamos pendiente para la próxima.

Es un lugar único en su combinación de tradición y elegancia. Ubicado entre viñedos y preciosos paisajes, forma un lugar mágico para una boda inolvidable. Casal os ofrecerá un ambiente único y muy acogedor, perfecto para cualquier pareja que busque un lugar con carácter y estilo. Además, la comida y el vino en Casal de Arman son verdaderamente buenos. En resumen, Casal de Arman es el lugar perfecto para una boda o evento inolvidable.
