The Viking Plank was a sampler platter that came with smoked halibut slices, creamy chicken salad, pulled pork, cured ham, cabbage salad, Nordic cheese (Vesterhavsost) with berry compote, and two kinds of homebaked bread. My favorite components were the smoked halibut, the chicken salad, and the pulled pork, but everything was tasty, high-quality, and came with a gastronomic history lesson. The service at this cafe was super friendly too, and the outdoor tables made for a beautiful setting to enjoy the views of the harbor featuring the museum's reconstructions of Viking ships!
Popped in for a quick bite before heading into the museum. Anticipated standard fare but were blown away instead. Absolutely delicious, colorful, nutritious plates! Sandwiches were hearty, veggies were crisp and fresh. Even the kids plate was a marvel in simple food done well. Well worth stopping at!
One of the best museum meals I've had. Vegan friendly, just ask at the counter and they'll accommodate you the split pea sandwiches were delicious. Beautiful space too!
Seven hungry people in seven very happy people out. It 's an informal 'order at the counter and sit down ' kind of cafe with servers that deliver your made to order drinks and food quite quickly. But it 's the food that makes the visit worthwhile... My wife and I split a salad and the 'plank ' a fairly large sampler platter. Both were delicious with the plank featuring an amazing (but small) Viking sausage, beer braised pork, and salmon, barley, and cabbage salads. All very, very yummy we loved it. My son and daughter loved the salad and hot smoked salmon which they shared. My mom had a flatbread she loved and my father loved his fishcakes (can you see a trend developing)? Sadly, my mother in law was the 'odd man out ' and found the salad unsatisfying by itself. Which brings to mind my one criticism there needs to be something on the menu (e.g. a cheese plate) to add substance to a vegetarian 's meal. All in all, great food at a really great price. For all you who try to avoid the 'museum lunch ' you need not fear the Knarr.
Located within the Viking museum compound, this little gem is a perfect place to stop for lunch if you are coming to tour the Viking ships. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food here. Locally sourced ingredients are the name of the game, they have a delicious selection of sandwiches, salads and platters. The flatbread with pulled pork is highly recommended.
