World Famous Hotboys - Sacramento

The food is typical of good fried chicken restaurant and I came in expecting super spicy sandwich (at least on par to the ones that knocked me in St Louis, MO like Southern). I came in with my friends and we ordered Hot Hot and even mentioned it specifically but it seems like the cashier kept changing it down to Hot . Whatever, it seems like a busy night I aint about to harp too much but it did sour the mood once we got the food.The food wasn 't Hot at all at least to me. I love eating spicy food and anything above habanero I can feel the burn but I didn 't for this. I honestly feel like their spiciness is probably on the same level as chips labeling themselves as ghost pepper when they 're really not. Otherwise, I feel like I paid a bit too much for standard good fried chicken (got the #1). Somehow the fries were cold but seasoning really well so idk how you can mess that up.Would I come back? Probably to give it a second chance in case I just got a bad night and was baited.

So good. Take my money. I like the sweetness of the glaze on the fried chicken and the batter is so even and beautiful, perfectly cooked and distributed. The ambiance of the place is so fun as well and even had free pac man to play. Fries are so well seasoned and they give a generous portion. Mac and cheese was good but I'd rather get the fries. Literally so good. I wanna go back. Chicken was so tender and juicy, sauce, Cole slaw, pickle retjon and distribution so beautifully done as well.

Hotboys has got to be my most favorite chicken sandwich spot in Sac! Everything is so good! Unfortunately, my last visit wasn’t so great! We waited 45min for our food because one of the cashiers(I think she was new, not too sure but I’ve never seen her there prior). We went in and checked on our food twice. Once when 15 min went by—my bf went in there and asked her to check, which she never did. 10 min later I went in there and asked her to check. She told me it was coming but she never checked the ticket so how would she know? She also never took my order, it was someone else so I wasn’t sure how she would know. I gave her my name and she still didn’t check. Another 10 went by and nothing-everyone after us got their food and NOTHING for us. She seemed irritated that we would even ask? We finally asked again, when her manager came, and she finally checked the tickets. They never told us what happened but the manager(bless her heart) got the other employees to make it for us. We went home and tried to enjoy our food but the chicken was soggy and the batter was still wet and coming off. I was so sad! I will be going back but just though I’d share my experience.

Best hot chicken sandwich spot around. Now open late on weekends in Sacramento when other food places are closed. I’ve been to the Oakland and Midtown Sacramento locations and the quality is consistent. Highly recommend the Hot Chicken Sandwich combo.

No complaints from this visit. The chicken was crispy, flavorful, tender, and amazingly delicious. I tried the chicken etouffee with white rice and it was really good. I will definitely visit again in the very near future to satisfy my fried chicken cravings.
