Avaliação da contribuiçãoWe attended on a hot summer’s day with local family friends so we had a group of 6 adults and 2 kids. This place is meant to have the best frog legs in the region. They are served piping hot on a sizzling cast iron plate in butter, garlic and parsley. They really are truly excellent! Crispy, delicious and fresh! I had the privilege of having the best hamburger of my life here. I have sampled burgers all over the world including Fergberger in Queenstown NZ which the Lonely Planet called ‘probably the best burger in the world’. Clearly the Lonely Planet staff have not eaten here. It was an emotional experience as I went through each bite, experiencing each of the delicious, fresh, perfectly placed, exquisite ingredients. If this is a hamburger then everything else I’ve had is a cheap imitation. I feel like I’ve just travelled first class and now I will never be the same again! Even the side potatoes were excellent. We finished of course, with Cafe Gourmand for dessert which is possibly the best thing to do in France. Each of the desserts were absolutely delicious. The setting was super relaxed under the leafy sycamore trees and stayed cool despite the hot day. It’s in a great location on the river and next to the 13th century St Bernard castle. I would have absolutely given 5 stars however they were so busy on this day that they were not quite as attentive as I would have liked and didn’t bring our dishes at the same time or come back regularly to take drink orders etc. the staff were very friendly and polite and especially attentive to the children that were with us. I would highly recommend this place and sincerely question anyone who gave a negative review as possibly not knowing that they are talking about.
Earlier reviews have been highly mixed to say the least but we felt we had little choice but to use this restaurant after a long day in the car. It's a slightly odd place with restricted views of the river from a huge area of slightly grubby decking. Tree leaf litter makes it hard to stay clear of debris. After the apocryphal stories of earlier visitors we went for safety first options of bottled beer, water, pate du canard starters and whitebait for mains. And it was all fine. Not great, just fine. Service was surprisingly good given there were around 60 diners when we left. Cost was €58 for 2 with no wine.
We were recommended to this restaurant by the proprietor of the hotel we were staying in, However, the service was extremely slow and the staff extremely rude!. We waited one and a half hours to be served the first course despite advising them that we had travelled a long way that day and were hungry. They refused to serve any bread until we had ordered too did they think we were likely to do a runner ! When we complained at the end in French the waitress who had previously talked to us only in English despite our best efforts to converse in French replied in rapid fire French appealing to customers in the vicinity (in FRENCH! that we anglaise just wanted fast food and should have gone to McDonalds ! We both speak and understand French and were absolutely appalled at this blatant rudeness! If you have nowhere else to go other than this restaurant go hungry!
