This is a fantastic little place, many gluten-free options that are suitable for coeliac and they also have vegan options. I had fresh squid and chips with muddy heaps and was also really impressed to see gluten-free pasties on the menu. the chips were really delicious. very recommended! note: open february half-time to oktober half-time.
You can see from the mixed reviews how people’s experiences have varied so much . We can only speak as we find and for four visits over four years our experiences have been really good. We have been able to pre order and pick ups have always been on time . Fish and chips were admittedly a bit pricey on our latest visit but taste and portion sizes were spot on .
This was by far the worst fish and chips experience I've ever had at the coast. We ordered Haddock but received Cod instead. The manager, a rude woman, threw the returned fish towards the bin and then engaged in an argument with both my partner and myself, acting obnoxious and disrespectful. We paid £30 for 2 fish, 1 order of chips, a bread roll, and 2 servings of mushy peas. This would have been acceptable if the food was top-notch, but it was far from it. I suggest someone open a new fish and chip shop in town to outshine this one, as the prices and quality are outrageous. We may be visitors, but we deserve to be treated with respect. This establishment needs some competition to learn how to properly run a business. I will never dine here again, it was truly awful and not a good representation of Salcombe.
Last night, we enjoyed a satisfactory fish and chips takeaway. The service was quick, with a 10-minute wait, and the fish was good with excellent batter. However, the chips were just average. Despite negative reviews, our experience was different and we had a pleasant fish and chips supper.
